Village by BOA is the first development under the BOA Hotels brand. It honours and enhances the complete experience of “Bairro do Silva”, a historic area in the heart of Porto with roots in the late 19th century. This project transformed the space while preserving its essence and history, taking it to a new level of comfort and quality.

Each entrance and access point has been carefully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring a smooth and safe access experience for guests and employees of Village by BOA.
In 2022, Village by BOA undertook a significant revitalisation project involving five buildings in the iconic “Bairro do Silva”. The vision was clear: to transform these structures into a contemporary hospitality environment, redefining the stay experience for guests while respecting the neighbourhood's history and context.
The project team meticulously adapted the buildings, resulting in 40 impressive dwellings, each telling a unique story within its revitalised walls. Additionally, two commercial spaces were earmarked for public use, contributing to the neighbourhood’s vitality. Village by BOA required a solution extending beyond aesthetics and functionality to how guests interact with the built environment, including security and time efficiency.
Implementing the Salto KS cloud solution presented an exciting and complex challenge. The team needed to carefully integrate this access control technology in a setting where image was as important as an automated and efficient check-in experience. Every entrance and every access had to perfectly incorporate this cutting-edge technology while aligning with the sense of renovation that permeated the entire project.
Village by BOA opted for the Salto KS cloud-based access platform to provide controlled access throughout the property, reinforcing guest safety and asset protection. This cloud technology enables guests to check in using a PIN code before arrival, eliminating wait times and face-to-face interactions while making access to rooms and common areas more fluid and enjoyable.
The integration of the Mews Property Management System (PMS) with Salto’s powerful access control solution played a key role in simplifying the automatic check-in flow. Mews receives booking information and, via the Duve intermediary – a bridge between Mews PMS and Salto KS – forwards this data to Salto KS for code and access credential generation. Duve then establishes a new communication with Mews, which transmits the codes and access permissions directly to guests. Those codes remain active only between check-in and check-out.
Salto KS's cloud-based structure enables the Village by BOA management team to supervise and administer access remotely, from anywhere and at any time. System administrators can monitor entry and exit logs in real-time, increasing the visibility of security trends and property usage. If suspicious activity or unauthorised access attempts occur, the platform generates instant alerts, enabling an agile and efficient response.
The Salto KS cloud platform offers a robust, reliable, and flexible security structure. The system uses advanced encryption and authentication protocols to ensure that only authorised individuals have access to designated areas. Moreover, it eliminates risks associated with lost or stolen physical keys, as codes or digital credentials can be easily revoked or updated in real-time.
The first step in implementing the solution was the installation of Salto equipment, including wall readers and smart electronic locks, in strategic locations throughout Village by BOA. This marked the beginning of the transformation of the access control system into a fully technological and intelligent environment.
The Keypad Wall Reader at the main entrance welcomes guests with a secure and fluid access experience. This discreet yet highly efficient device transforms the way guests enter rooms or buildings, eliminating the need for physical keys or traditional access cards. At the same time, it adds a touch of elegant design and advanced functionality, creating a keyless access experience that harmoniously integrates aesthetics, technology, and convenience.
To meet these goals of enhanced security and greater convenience, Village by BOA selected Salto's XS4 Original Keypad for the property's various internal areas. This strategic choice allowed Village by BOA to implement a versatile, state-of-the-art access system that meets the needs of both guests and staff. The XS4 Original Keypad provides guests with a safe and efficient way of accessing their rooms, allowing them to choose between using a personal code or a digital key for simplified and personalised access.
In addition to the rooms, the XS4 Original Keypad has been extended to common areas such as the gym, as well as technical areas and spaces restricted to staff. This versatility allows both guests and staff at Village by BOA to take advantage of the security and ease of use provided by Salto’s advanced technology.
