In the management software ProAccess Space, we mapped our different functional areas, such as offices, hotel, kindergarten and seminar rooms as areas in the software and assigned them corresponding general access rights. In addition, we have granted special access rights to individual persons or user groups, e.g. for switching the alarm system.

The challenge
Text

The extension of the campus brought with it a number of new requirements for the access control solution. The electronic locking system with active transponders previously used in the existing building was out of the question for the new building because it would have been far too expensive to operate due to the transponders. Moreover, the integration of cashless payment for the employees in the restaurant and the hotel integration would not have been possible. Connext did not want to have two locking systems in the building, even if it meant re-equipping the existing building. A mechanical locking system was excluded from the outset because of the high costs over the life cycle, the effort involved in its management and the lack of security.

As selection criteria, those responsible determined that the new standardised access control solution should work with passive transponder technology, in particular to be able to integrate the operation of the hotel and the restaurant. In addition, the system was to be Wireless networked so that Connext could implement door monitoring as well as short-term changes to time-controlled access plans in real-time and, if necessary, open doors remotely. Furthermore, there were various automatic door systems included in order to be able to deactivate accesses, as well as fire protection and escape route doors. Since some areas on the campus are needed particular security, the selection criteria also included a connection to the alarm system, which was to be armed or disarmed via wall readers.

Solution
Text

For the access control, the company chose a system from SALTO which, as a comprehensive solution, can represent the different functional areas, enables integration with the building control system and is easy to operate despite the complex campus layout.

The entire access control system is networked via SALTO Wireless technology. This system architecture is particularly suitable for applications in which real-time monitoring of doors is needed or desired and therefore precisely implements Connext's requirements. In the hotel area, the mobile access technology JustIN Mobile complements the Wireless networking and the virtual network. JustIN Mobile allows doors to be opened with a smartphone, using Bluetooth (Bluetooth Low Energy - BLE) integrated in every smartphone.

Connext uses the ProAccess Space management software for the access management of employees, hotel guests and external service providers. The company applies the office mode in large parts during the day, with which doors are freely accessible within a certain period of time and automatically or manually switch into standard mode, in which only authorised persons are granted access.

Business Case Key benefits
  • Self-explanatory operation of the software thanks to well-designed GUIs and easy installation due to the web client
  • Integration options with the building control system as well as hotel functions

  • Convincing comprehensive solution for very different areas of use
