SALTO KS is an easy-to-use and secure electronic access control system. As EDEKA's IT systems are not to be used for 'other' purposes, the idea of a cloud-based solution convinced us. The control and management via internet browser and app ensures the greatest possible independence.

The challenge
Text

Due to the opening of the then second shop in Hameln, EDEKA Durasin decided to purchase an electronic access control system. When selecting the system, the focus was on the fact that it could also be extended to the existing shop and combined with an intruder alarm system. In addition, simple and feature-rich administration played a central role. The company wanted to be able to configure access rights very granularly, to have an overview of the activities in the shops at all times and to be able to manage the system remotely - i.e. mobile. The higher security compared to mechanical locking systems was important, especially in case of key loss. Because if a key is lost, the trouble really starts with mechanical systems, usually associated with expensive reordering of cylinders and keys as well as waiting time, which is synonymous with a major security gap. With an electronic solution, you avoid these problems forever, because if a card or smart tag is lost, the credential can simply be blocked in the system.

Today, the system secures the EDEKA shop in Hameln at the external doors and in the office area. For this purpose, six XS4 Original electronic escutcheons in different models (narrow, wide and DIN - each matching the door), an electronic escutcheon with mechanical override function and a wall reader for controlling the electric door opener at the office door were installed. The escutcheons are wirelessly connected to three hubs, the IQs, and a repeater. The IQs establish the real-time connection with the online platform and the app via M2M mobile radio.

Currently, EDEKA Durasin manages 16 users in the system; in the medium term, there will be up to 30 users in this property. Some of the electronic smart tags are equipped with a hybrid chip, which means they can be used not only in the access control system, but also for arming and disarming the intruder alarm system.

A key requirement was remote management. With the online platform and the app, Salto KS fulfils exactly this requirement: the app is mainly used for status monitoring, as well as for disabling the office mode.
