Future-proof retail store access control management solutions

Blog Post Short Text

Modern access control solutions are essential for retail stores that want to future-proof their access control management.

Blog Post Long Text

Retail stores require efficient and secure access control solutions to ensure the safety of their customers, staff, and merchandise. Traditional access control methods such as keys, locks, and access cards are no longer sufficient to meet the evolving needs of modern retail environments. Robust access control is vital for efficient, successful retail store security of any size or type – boutiques or big-box stores, owner-operated restaurants or fast-food chains, banks or financial services outlets, and more.

With the emergence of new technologies and the growing importance of keyless smart access, retail store access control management solutions must be future-proof to adapt to the changing needs.

What's the future of access control?

The future of access control is increasingly digital, mobile, and connected. As technology continues to evolve, future-proof retail access control is about providing a more seamless, keyless, secure, and flexible experience for staff while also offering more sophisticated tools and analytics for store managers. An increasing number of access control systems are moving away from traditional physical keys and keycards towards smart mobile credentials.

Access control systems will continue to evolve to meet the dynamic needs of retail stores and other businesses – and SALTO is leading the charge toward this innovation, accelerating the smart access transition from mechanical keys to digital keys.

What are the challenges of traditional access control methods in retail?

Traditional access control methods such as keys and locks have been used for decades in retail stores: however, they come with several challenges. For example, it can be difficult to manage access control for large retail stores that have many employees and frequent turnover. Moreover, traditional access control methods lack the flexibility and convenience that modern retail environments require, from the store's main entrance to the back-store area and warehouse access.

Store managers must be freed from constant cries of, “Can I have the keys?” On the other hand, site managers must facilitate maintenance and deliveries, often outside of regular operating hours. Business owners must control stock and protect against fraud while landlords must ensure that only authorised personnel are on their premises.

These issues, and more, are easily managed with SALTO’s keyless smart access solutions for retail store security. SALTO Systems makes access control simple, seamless, and secure by providing you with the tools to grant specific access rights to your staff, suppliers, customers, or even delivery services.

Top 5 benefits of modern access control solutions for retail

Modern access control solutions offer several benefits for retail stores. Firstly, they provide better security for customers, staff, and merchandise. Secondly, modern access control solutions can be easily managed and customised to meet the unique needs of a retail store. What’s more, modern access control solutions offer a more convenient, efficient, and seamless experience for both customers and staff alike.

SALTO Systems' access control solutions for retail can help retail stores future-proof their access control management – thanks to our advanced technologies and a broad range of features that prioritise security, convenience, and customisation. Here are some of the benefits of SALTO's access control solutions for retail:

  1. Mobile and smart access: Scrap mechanical keys, replacement costs, and lost-key security worries.

Improve your staff experience and simplify your retail store security access control. Empower your employees with convenient, smart key access to the locations they need, and add or revoke authorisations in real time.

SALTO's mobile and smart access solutions allow staff to use their smartphones to access retail stores. This eliminates the need for access cards and provides a more seamless, hassle-free experience.

  2. Improve access management: Simplify and centralise store security.

Add, delete, or modify access permissions for multiple sites instantly – all from one location. Replace expensive-to-reissue mechanical keys with mobile access, smart Tags or key fobs, or PIN codes.

Eliminate expensive rekeying when staff members lose or misplace a key.

  3. Integration with other systems: Integrate with your existing retail business management applications and security systems.

SALTO's access control platforms and solutions can be easily incorporated with other systems. This ensures full integration with the existing retail business management software that works with your time and attendance system or combined video surveillance management systems.

With SALTO, it’s easy to add new doors and locks to as many retail locations as needed. And no door is a problem – our state-of-the-art hardware solutions are designed to make smart access possible on any door, however unusual it may be.

  4. Customisable access levels: Control who goes where and when for any or all of your retail locations.

Define precisely who can enter or exit, through which access points, and at what times – including your staff, suppliers, or delivery services. You can even authorise access by time of day and day of the week, offering convenient keyless and mobile access with remote access capabilities to open doors from anywhere in the world. This ensures that staff members have access to the areas they need while maintaining the security of other, more sensitive areas.

Revoke terminated employees’ access immediately, go into emergency lock-down, and remotely adjust access permissions and schedules at any time.

  5. Audit trail: Monitor store operating hours and improve retail store security.

SALTO smart access control solutions provide 24/7 insights into on-premise activity, which improves safety for customers and staff members. SALTO's smart, high-tech access control solutions provide an audit trail of all access events: this allows retail stores to track who accessed specific areas and at what time.
Future-proof retail store access control management solutions

SALTO Systems is helping retail businesses simplify their access management workflow to increase productivity, security, and operational efficiency – all reducing costs and optimising processes for shared, single, and multiple locations for all types of retail environments.

Modern access control solutions are essential for retail stores that want to future-proof their access control management. Which are the best access control systems for businesses? SALTO Systems will help you find the answer!

Blog Post Short Text

This is not an easy question to answer, but SALTO Systems’ product and service offerings certainly stand out.

Blog Post Long Text

Modern-day access control systems utilise electronic components to deliver a seamless keyless experience. Users and guests can enjoy an efficient, secure, and flexible solution that regulates who has access to different areas within your building or facility. The ability to monitor who enters and leaves the premises, and when, helps keep your business and property safe; it also lends a streamlined and professional feel to your operations.

The best door access control systems offer building operators greater functionality, flexibility, and oversight. They allow you to:

  • Boost security by allowing only authorised users and visitors into certain parts of your building or facility. This reduces the chance of people accessing areas they do not hold credentials for – whether maliciously or by mistake.
  • Prevent unauthorised users, residents, visitors or guests from entering restricted areas where sensitive information, like customer data, might be stored.
  • Eliminate the need for mechanical keys, lock replacements, and complicated system configurations.
  • Choose from two primary access control solutions – cloud-based access control or on-premise access control – and different access methods.

Which are the most popular access control systems?

There is a wide range of access control systems available on the market today. One option is the use of contactless proximity smart cards or RFID cards, which are issued to authorised personnel to grant access to spaces fitted with a card reader. Card-based access control systems are a popular choice because they are easy to use; the cards can also be easily deactivated if lost or stolen. In addition, the best card access systems can provide a detailed audit trail of who has accessed specific areas and when.

Mobile-based access control is another widely-used possibility. These systems utilise smartphones and digital technology like Bluetooth LE and NFC. They are becoming increasingly popular due to the high level of security, flexibility, and user experience they offer.

Other common access control methods include PIN code keypad access, biometric access – such as facial recognition – and access via Apple Wallet using an iPhone and Apple Watch. Each of these methods boasts its own strengths and can be applied to different use cases but, ultimately, the choice of which method to implement will depend on the specific needs of the facility and organisation.

Which are the best access control systems for businesses?

Choosing the best access control systems for businesses

Selecting the access control system best suited for your business depends on many factors, including use case, security needs, technology, integrations, installation size, and cost. The key is finding the right balance between your needs, project specifications, operational requirements, and functionality. Ultimately, the goal is to allow users to enter buildings when necessary while keeping unauthorised guests out of off-limits floors, zones, and spaces altogether – all while streamlining management to digitise your building operations.

Access control systems are an essential part of any business or building operations and security. They allow you to keep track of who is coming into your building, where they're going, and how long they have been inside. This can help ensure that unauthorised people cannot gain access to sensitive areas of your facility.

Take a look at the 10 features to consider when selecting an access control solution:

  1. Access methods and ID management. How do I manage access rights, methods, and permissions in a select access control system?
  2. Security requirements. What level of security do you need?
  3. Facility needs. What is the size and layout of your facility, the number of people who need access, and the type of assets you want to protect?
  4. User needs. What are the needs and preferences of the users and visitors who will be accessing the facility? Consider factors such as ease of use, access method, and operator needs.
  5. Integration. Does the access control system need to integrate with other security systems, such as video surveillance or alarms, or to extend access control to elevators?
  6. Scalability. Will the system need to accommodate future growth or changes in your facility?
  7. Compatibility. Does the system work with your existing doors and IT infrastructure? Retrofit installation requirement that prioritizes existing doors.
  8. Cost. What is your budget, including installation and ongoing maintenance costs?
  9. Maintenance and support. What level of maintenance and support does the brand provide? Do they offer a warranty or service agreement?
  10. Compliance. Does the access control system comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) criteria, cybersecurity and environmental regulations, and all other relevant certifications and standards for your industry or location?

At SALTO Systems, our certified security partners can give you all the information you need to determine the ideal access control system for your needs. But, before making your decision, here are a few other tips to help you pick the best access control system:

  • Don't rely on the cheapest option – it may cause more problems in the long run.
  • Don't underestimate the importance of user training and support.
  • Avoid access control systems that are not scalable or flexible enough to meet your future needs.
  • Avoid access control systems that don’t adapt to your needs, existing infrastructure, and existing doors.
  • Avoid access control solutions that don't comply with GDPR or cybersecurity requirements and environmental policies.
  • Don’t choose an access control system that cannot adapt to different access points or doors, or those which require wiring and entail high hidden costs.

SALTO commemorates Earth Day 2023 with a call for sustainability

Blog Post Short Text

Happy Earth Day 2023! At SALTO, sustainability is so important that it influences our decision-making process every day.

Blog Post Long Text

Happy Earth Day 2023! At SALTO, sustainability is so important that it influences our decision-making process every day. We constantly ask ourselves whether what we buy is sustainable,  if we are wasting too much, and debate if our products are sustainable enough. Can we slow down or even reverse global climate change?

We’re committed to protecting our planet and reducing our impact on the environment. SALTO Systems has undergone a profound transformation towards an increasingly sustainable model to mitigate our environmental and social impact, address our planet's main challenges, and be a part of the green revolution. Today, we want to highlight some of the sustainability actions we’ve undertaken across the globe to help accelerate the transition to an equitable, prosperous, green economy for all and the progress we’ve made so far.

Our forestry projects

We’re proud to back initiatives that aim to protect and restore forest ecosystems. By offering our support, we’re contributing to the fight against deforestation – a significant driver of climate change and biodiversity loss. It’s a complex subject, but we work hard to offset our CO₂ output yearly. We support various projects in Europe, neutralizing our entire legacy carbon emissions, effectively reducing our output emissions:

Earth Day 2023: SALTO’s commitment to sustainability and the climate fight
  • We have supported the Olive Tree initiative in Spain, contributing to the maintenance of 50 hundred-year-old olive trees in Oliete (Teruel, Spain) while promoting the economic revitalisation of the municipality. This has the potential not just to help society, but also protect and preserve native biodiversity – these trees provide a habitat for different species of flora and fauna. Over time, birds and insects coexist in the trees’ bark, protecting them from pests such as olive flies, which feed on the trees. They also provide nesting places, while the soil has bacteria and insects that provide organic matter, encouraging growth and maintaining the good health of the olive trees. Ultimately, this translates to higher-quality olives. According to the LIFE Olivares Vivos report, it’s estimated that protecting and maintaining traditional olive groves would contribute to the recovery of bird, ant, bee, and plant populations by up to 35%.

  • We have participated in the forest restoration of the Etxolazarreta farm, in the Bidasoa neighborhood of Irun, Spain, within the Aiako Harria Natural Park. In an area damaged by forest fire in 2021, this project seeks to improve the capacity of vegetation and soils to act as carbon sinks, enhance their ecological functionality, and preserve the environment's biodiversity.

  • In our factories in Spain, we will soon create a garden for pollinating species. In particular, we aim to help the local populations of butterflies, bees, and other species critical for biodiversity. We've all heard how important they are, but do you know why that is? According to the FAO, more than 75% of the world's food crops depend, to some extent, on pollination. Bees, butterflies, birds, moths, beetles, ants, wasps, and even bats help plants reproduce and bear seeds and fruit. The main pollinators feed on pollen and, when moving from one flower to another, they transport it from the stamens to the stigma. Sometimes this happens by chance, as an insect passes between flowers and transports pollen without realising it. We encourage you to plant a garden to encourage pollinators at your own homes too!

  • Rewilding of Swiss upland moorland. The rewetting of an upland moorland not only stores CO₂ in the soil, but also improves flood protection, helps water pollution control, and benefits microclimate and the landscape. Moors are hotspots of biodiversity, and intact moorlands provide habitats for rare and endangered animal and plant species.

Our ocean projects

We understand the impact that plastic and other forms of pollution have on our oceans. To contribute to the fight against ocean pollution, we support projects that aim to clean up these water bodies and protect marine ecosystems. By doing so, we are helping to preserve the health and beauty of our oceans for future generations.

Earth Day 2023: SALTO’s commitment to sustainability and the climate fight

More than 640,000 tons of fishing nets end up at the bottom of our oceans every year. Environmental responsibility begins with our activities and our collaboration in projects that help maximise the use of resources – all under the sustainability and circular economy criteria. SALTO Systems accomplishes this hand-in-hand with Real Sociedad Fundazioa, the Gipuzkoa Netting Association, and with the underwater section of the Spanish football club Real Sociedad.

Towards carbon neutrality

We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint and have implemented several initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality across all our locations and manufacturing facilities. SALTO Systems achieved our goal of becoming 100% carbon neutral in 2021. Since then, we have invested in renewable energy sources, installing renewable energy power-generation systems, purchasing certified 100% green electricity in many of our facilities.

Earth Day 2023: SALTO’s commitment to sustainability and the climate fight

We’ve also optimised our energy use, offsetting our emissions through verified carbon credits that prioritise local projects which remove CO₂ already in the atmosphere. By doing all this, we’re playing our part in addressing the global climate crisis.

Our recycling policies

We understand the importance of reducing waste, and we’ve implemented recycling policies in all our operations and workplaces. We encourage our employees to recycle and provide them with the necessary tools and resources to do so. We also work with our suppliers and customers to minimise waste throughout our supply chain.

Earth Day 2023: SALTO’s commitment to sustainability and the climate fight

Sustainable products

At SALTO, we’re committed to developing, designing, and manufacturing sustainable products based on best-practice eco-design criteria. We strive to reduce our products' environmental impact throughout their life cycle, moving towards a circular economy and reducing the amount of waste they generate.

Education

We believe that education is a key component of sustainability. We educate our team on best practices and provide them with the necessary knowledge and tools to reduce their environmental impact.

More and more people are working from home, so it’s important that they understand that their way of life also has a big impact. So we’re providing them with valuable information and some simple tricks, go paperless, conserve energy, and encourage sustainable transportation car sharing for employees commuting to the office or cycling or walking to work. – helping us extend our reach as a sustainable employer. By doing so, we’re empowering our employees to make a positive difference in their personal and professional lives.

Our commitment to the SDGs

In September 2015, all 193 United Nations member states agreed to adopt the 17 official Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2020, SALTO Systems joined their ranks, making a commitment to promote progress by becoming a member of the UN Global Compact.

This pledge signifies a promise to align our operations with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor-safety standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption. With this move, SALTO joined thousands of companies worldwide in carrying out corporate actions, policies, and practices that help to create a better world.

Sustainability and digital transformation in multi-family real estate

The current trend in real estate is undoubtedly evolving towards a more sustainable model based on technology and digitisation. An increasing number of new tools are enhancing the residential experience, optimising operations and saving costs, not to mention aiding sustainability. Following the latest eco-design criteria, our Environmental Product Declaration - EPD looks to incorporate renewable materials and ensure products last as long as possible in an attempt to achieve building decarbonisation. Indeed, one of the most engaging forums at the event addressed how properties are embracing digital transformation, promoting decarbonisation and looking towards circular economies.

The building and construction industries combined are currently responsible for 39% of all carbon emissions around the world, with operational emissions such as climate control and lighting accounting for some 28%. Rebuild 2023 underlined the increasing demand from architects, developers, property managers and operators, who are all now looking to harness new technology and materials to minimise emissions. The event boasts huge potential in the fact it brings together all the agents throughout the building process value chain. This setting of transformational exploration is the perfect chance for networking among a wide variety of attendees.

Cloud-based or on-premise access control solutions: Which one should you choose?

Blog Post Short Text

Choosing between cloud-based and on-premise access control solutions can be a difficult decision, as both types of solutions offer their own unique benefits.

Blog Post Long Text

In today's world, access control is an essential part of any building's operations and security system. Smart access solutions have also evolved with the increasing need for smart buildings and the rise of cloud-based technology. However, choosing the right access control solution can be challenging, as there are many factors to consider, including cost, use case, installation size, technology, integrations, and security.

Building operators can choose from two primary access control solutions: cloud-based access control and on-premise access control. In this blog post, we will discuss the differences between the two and highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Cloud-based access control solutions

SALTO KS

Cloud-based access control solutions (ACaaS - Access Control as a Service ) store the software and all the data in the cloud. The cloud-based system allows administrators to manage and control access to their facilities, devices, and data from anywhere with an internet connection. These solutions are becoming more popular because they offer flexibility, scalability, future-proof integration capabilities, and cost savings.

Cloud-based access control solutions are hosted on remote cloud servers. This means that system operators can manage their installation from anywhere with an internet connection – and with no need for any physical infrastructure. These solutions typically involve the use of software as a service (SaaS) platforms to ensure that they are secure and up to date, which offer a range of benefits to organisations, including:

  • Scalability: Cloud-based access control solutions are highly scalable, which means that buildings can easily add or remove users, locations, or other resources as needed.
  • Flexibility: One of the significant advantages of cloud-based access control is that the cloud service provider is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure. This means that organisations do not have to worry about maintaining the hardware or software required to run the access control system, increasing flexibility and system capabilities.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Cloud-based access control solutions often require lower upfront costs than on-premise solutions, as they do not require organisations to purchase and maintain expensive hardware, physical infrastructure and software.
  • Integration capabilities: With cloud-based access control solutions, organisations can easily integrate their access control systems with other cloud-based services, such as video surveillance, intercom, visitor management, PMS, or intrusion detection systems.
  • Ease of use: Cloud-based access control solutions are typically designed with user-friendliness in mind, which means that they are easy to set up, configure, and use.

On-premise access control solutions

SALTO Space

On-premise access control is an access control solution where the access control infrastructure is installed and managed on-site by the organisation, with an IT Infrastructure hosted on-site. The solution consists of hardware and software installed on the organisation's servers and is accessed through a local network.

One of the significant advantages of on-premise access control is that organisations have complete control over the solution – including the security of the infrastructure. This means that organisations can customise the solution to meet their specific security requirements. On-premise access control solutions offer many other benefits, including:

  • Enhanced security: These access control solutions offer enhanced security as all access control data is stored within the organisation's own network and infrastructure, which means that there are fewer points of vulnerability.
  • Performance: On-premise access control is not dependent on an internet connection. This makes the solution more reliable and less susceptible to outages caused by internet connectivity issues.
  • Control: With on-premise access control solutions, organisations have greater control over their access control systems – they can customise these systems to meet their specific security requirements.
  • Customisation: On-premise access control solutions can be customised to meet the specific needs of organisations, which means that they can be tailored to meet the unique requirements of different industries or organisations.
  • Compatibility: On-premise access control solutions are often designed to be compatible with a range of other security systems and hardware, which means that organisations can integrate them with other building management systems technologies.

Cloud-based vs. on-premise access control: Which is right for your organisation?

When choosing between cloud-based and on-premise access control solutions, there are several factors to consider. These include the size of the organisation, the number of locations, the industry application, the security requirements, and the integration capabilities.

For small organisations with limited IT resources or an organisation with multiple locations, a cloud-based access control solution may be the most practical option. This is because cloud-based solutions require minimal hardware and software maintenance, reducing the burden on the organisation's IT staff.

For larger organisations with more complex security requirements, an on-premise access control solution may be the better choice. On-premise solutions offer not only more customisation options but greater control over the entire security infrastructure.

SALTO’s innovative smart access solutions

SALTO offers smart access control solutions for businesses and organisations. We provide three main smart access control platforms: SALTO Space on-premise, as well as SALTO KS and Homelok cloud-based solutions.

SALTO Space:  A standalone, virtually networked, wired, and wireless online smart access control data-on-card platform.

SALTO Space is a fully-integrated, stand-alone, wire-free, smart-locking platform and web-based software management tool, with an on-premise system that brings seamless access to every door in any building in an efficient, safe, and secure way. It is a flexible and scalable access control solution that can be customised to meet the specific needs of each customer. It provides a high level of security, ease of use, and control over access to buildings and rooms.

SALTO Space on-premise is ideal for organisations that require advanced access control functionality but prefer to manage the system on their own hosted servers. SALTO Space combines the reliability, security, and scalability of an on-premise access control solution, with the flexibility and availability of stand-alone, SVN-powered, and networked smart electronic lock technology.

SALTO KS: Scalable and flexible cloud-based smart access control solution, with best-in-class real-time capabilities.

SALTO KS (KaaS: Keys as a Service) is a scalable cloud-based Access Control as a Service (ACaaS) solution, built to fit anything from small and midsize businesses to large enterprises and multi-site organisations. It is designed to be user-friendly and easy to manage, with a simple web interface that allows administrators to manage access – from anywhere, at any time.

SALTO KS is ideal for businesses that want a turnkey access control solution that can be easily scaled up or connected to a third-party system. It is designed to secure every part of any type of residential property – from apartment unit doors to perimeter access points and common areas.

Make the best selection

Choosing between cloud-based and on-premise access control solutions can be a difficult decision, as both types of solutions offer their own unique benefits. Ultimately, the best solution for your organisation, property, or building type will depend on a range of factors, including your security requirements, use case, keyless entry method, and IT infrastructure.

However, by considering the benefits of each type of solution, you can make an informed decision that will help you protect your facility's critical assets. With the right access control solution, you can bring smart building management into a new era of capabilities, including keyless entry, remote opening, and flexible access scenarios; users, staff, visitor, and resident access management, and more efficient building security and operations management.

International Women’s Day: SALTO’s commitment to progress

Blog Post Short Text

Discover how we at SALTO are celebrating International Women’s Day, and the actions we take to promote equality all year round.

Blog Post Long Text

Discover how we at SALTO are celebrating International Women’s Day, and the actions we take to promote equality all year round.

8 March marks the annual celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD). Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1975, this commemoration is an opportunity for our global community to stop and reflect on women’s social, economic, and political achievements. It’s also a time to reexamine the obstacles we must overcome to achieve gender equality.

At SALTO Systems, we strive to do our part in creating a more just world where everyone is provided the same opportunities and resources. That’s why, in honour of IWD 2023, we’re taking stock of the initiatives we’ve created to promote equality in our organisation and community.

Social responsibility in the tech sector

This year’s celebration of International Women’s Day comes with an important theme, as established by the UN: ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’. The goal is to address the global inequalities that exist within the world of technology – including access to internet and digital education – and to celebrate the women who are already leading the tech revolution.

In our modern world, we’re increasingly dependent on internet-powered interactions. Everything is backed by tech, from attending work meetings to calling loved ones, making a purchase, booking a doctor’s appointment, or even unlocking our front doors. More and more daily activities are being digitalised and automated in order to make our lives better and more efficient.

Yet, in 2022, an estimated 37% of women around the world still don’t use the internet, according to the ITU. But the same isn’t true for men: roughly 259 million fewer women have access to the internet than men, even though they account for nearly half the world's population.

As a leader in the tech sector, SALTO believes we have a social responsibility to empower and celebrate women in the digital sphere.

International Women’s Day: SALTO’s commitment to progress

Sustainable Development Goal #5: Gender Equality

Gender equality has become a hot topic in the last few decades. The issue has sparked meaningful conversations amongst governments, organisations, and individuals on the best ways to promote equity. The United Nations lists Gender Equality as Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #5, aiming to empower women and end all forms of gender discrimination by 2030.

SALTO supports SDG #5, paying close attention to issues like women’s employment and access to leadership roles.

SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

DEI and ESG at SALTO

We believe gender equality fits into the greater picture of intersectional social progress. However, it can only be tackled by firm DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives. DEI is a key part of our ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) strategy – reflected in both our company policies and the activities we participate in throughout the year.

Our interpretation of DEI translates into the following policies:

  • Diversity: our employees reflect a wide range of attributes, views, identities, and backgrounds;
  • Equity: all employees in the company receive adequate support and opportunities for growth; and
  • Inclusion: every employee feels respected, valued, and safe at SALTO.

For SALTO, these policies act as not only promoters of equality and peace, but also drivers of innovation, productivity, and growth.

We also spearhead various social responsibility initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • The Corporate Equality Plan, aimed at promoting equal opportunities and social inclusion in the workplace;
  • Robust safety and security measures, including comprehensive training, information, and supervision; and
  • Health and sports initiatives, including the SALTO Running & Cycling Team and Free2Move.org, our in-house program empowering disabled athletes to reach their goals.

Our commitment to the SDGs>

In September 2015, all 193 UN member states agreed to adopt the 17 official SDGs. In 2020, SALTO Systems joined its ranks, making a commitment to promote progress by becoming a member of the Global Compact

This pledge implies a promise to align our operations with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour-safety standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption. With this move, SALTO joined thousands of companies worldwide in carrying out corporate actions, policies, and practices that help to create a better world.

THE 17 GOALS - Sustainable Development Goals
THE 17 GOALS - Sustainable Development Goals

SALTO takes this responsibility very seriously. In addition to our strong policies on DEI and gender equality, we’ve achieved ISO 14001 certification. We are also ranked Silver by EcoVadis and have become 100% carbon neutral at our factory and in all offices across the world. These are significant steps in making keyless, smart access technology more sustainable.

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating International Women’s Day now and every day by embracing policies and initiatives that promote equality, progress, and a better future.

Hybrid Hospitality Properties: A new era in Hospitality

Blog Post Short Text

The combination of hybrid hospitality and smart access technology SALTO is helping to revolutionize the way hotels operate, by improving the guest experience, increasing operational efficiency and providing a more secure and personalized stay for guests.

Blog Post Long Text

The combination of hybrid hospitality and smart access technology SALTO is helping to revolutionize the way hotels operate, by improving the guest experience, increasing operational efficiency and providing a more secure and personalized stay for guests.

The hospitality industry is constantly evolving, and the recent trend of hybrid hospitality properties is a prime example of this. Hybrid hospitality properties are a combination of traditional hotel services with the convenience and technology of short-term rental properties and working spaces for business travellers. This new model is changing the way guests think about and experience hospitality, and it's also presenting new challenges for hotel operators.

Hybrid hospitality properties offer guests a choice between hotel rooms or private apartments, which can be booked via an app or website. Guests have access to shared common areas that include restaurants, lounges and business centres as well as other amenities like gyms or swimming pools. This type of property is ideal for guests who want to feel at home while they're away from home, but who want to avoid dealing with the hassle of renting an apartment.

One of the key advantages of hybrid hospitality properties is their ability to provide guests with more control, service and customization experience over their stay. With the use of technology, guests can book and manage their stay from their smartphones, check-in and out at their convenience, have mobile access, connect securely to the WiFi network to work remotely, and even control the temperature and lighting in their rooms. This level of security, guest safety and keyless convenience is a major highlight for guests' experience and is a key factor in the popularity of hybrid hospitality properties.

Hybrid Hospitality Properties: A new era in Hospitality

This new model is changing the way guests think about and experience hospitality, and it's also presenting new challenges for hotel operators.

Here are four ways that hybrid hospitality properties are changing the way hotels operate:

1. It provides guests with more choice.
Hybrid hotels can offer a more flexible experience to their guests by offering multiple services under one roof. For example, they can offer public spaces where travellers can work or relax, while providing more private areas for travellers to rest after a long day of meetings or sightseeing. The ability to cater to both business travellers and leisure tourists makes hybrid hotels appealing to many types of guests looking for different types of experiences during their stay in the city.

2. It makes it easier for guests to work remotely.
The rise in remote work has led to a growing number of travellers who want an amenity that enables them to keep working remotely while on vacation or on business trips away from home offices — whether it be through shared office spaces or private meeting rooms all working within a single access control technology that brings seamless Digital Key access to every door in an efficient, flexible, safe, and secure way.

3. It's about providing an experience.
Hybrid hotels are making use of smart access technology to provide a seamless guest experience, from check-in through check-out. As part of this effort, many hotels have implemented keyless and mobile entry systems like SALTO Hospitality solutions for their hotel rooms.

4. Combining the best of an office, a meeting room, a luxury hotel and a resort in an all-in-one property.
It should be noted that running a hybrid hospitality property also presents several challenges for hotel operators. One of the biggest challenges is maintaining the high level of service and security that guests expect from traditional hotels, while also providing the flexibility and freedom of a short-term rental property and coworking space. This requires a delicate balance and careful management of the property operations and its guests.

Hybrid Hospitality Properties: A new era in Hospitality

Ensuring that the technology used to support the hybrid hospitality model is reliable, secure, and user-friendly. Technical problems or security breaches can quickly erode guest confidence and negatively impact the property's reputation. It's essential for hotel operators to invest in smart access technology that is robust and well-supported in every property touch point and to have a contingency plan in place for when things go wrong.

By incorporating SALTO hybrid-integrated, virtually networked, wireless and cloud-based smart-locking technology into their operations, hotels can provide their guests with a convenient, modern and secure stay. It also helps the hotel staff to manage their operations more efficiently by reducing manual tasks and allowing them to focus on providing a higher level of service to their guests.

Hybrid Hospitality Properties: A new era in Hospitality

In conclusion, hybrid hospitality properties are a new and exciting development in the hospitality industry. While they bring many benefits to guests and operators, they also present new operational challenges that must be carefully managed to ensure success. With the right approach, however, hybrid hospitality properties have the potential to provide guests with an unparalleled level of control and convenience while also helping hotel operators to improve their operations and stay ahead of the competition.

5 Trends Shaping The Future Of Coworking Technology

Blog Post Short Text

Coworking is a revolution that's changing the way we work.

Blog Post Long Text

Coworking is a revolution that's changing the way we work. With a more flexible, remote working culture, coworkers are reinventing the workplace experience, finding new opportunities, and boosting members’ community collaboration in these shared workspaces and hybrid workplaces. But the one thing that ties all of these people together is technology. This evolving technology delivers the power to provide an app where coworkers can book, pay, and manage meeting room reservations, or gain access to the space with mobile door access.

Here are five ways Coworking technology will change your life and elevate your brand.

1. Smart-tech convenience

The future of coworking technology is bright. It’s one in which your members will be able to access your space with ease and without physical keys. By providing keyless options,  you’ll be able to give them a seamless member experience.

Smart tech is a must to improve your members’ experience and simplify your access control by leveraging the latest in coworking technology. By using smart locks instead of traditional keys or card readers, members can simply use their smart keycards or smartphone to gain entry into coworking spaces without having any physical “keys" at all. This provides them with greater peace of mind, knowing that they won't lose a keycard, for instance, which most workplaces require. Member satisfaction levels will improve overall, and this, in turn, translates directly into increased occupancy rates over time.

Smart workspaces are office environments designed to be more efficient and productive, often incorporating technology and amenities to support remote work and collaboration. Together, hotdesk booking and smart workspaces can improve the member experience by providing more options for where and when to work, as well as a more comfortable and functional working environment.

5 Trends Shaping The Future Of Coworking Technology

2. Seamless Coworking experiences

Grant access permissions based on membership. Give workspace members the convenience of keyless office door locks, elevator access, locker security, POD cabinet access, and opening doors using a Digital Key on a smartphone or with a tag or a PIN. Integrate office access control systems with member services and create partnered access solutions that support client satisfaction, retention, and recruitment.

A seamless coworking experience will also allow you to link access to membership plans or time-based privileges or restrictions. Decentralized key management can improve user experience by providing more autonomy and flexibility for users and members. Each member is responsible for managing their own keys or credentials, which eliminates the need for users to request access from a central administrator and can also make it easier for users to access different resources, invite visitors, or host meetings without having to go through multiple levels of authorization. Centralize your coworking access control system with an all-in-one cloud-based solution – that can be managed remotely from anywhere – that includes a complete smart locking platform of thoughtfully designed, easy-to-install and retrofit, access control solutions. This will help you achieve reliable access control, physical safety, and simplify security plans to ensure your community, visitors, and working spaces stay safe.

5 Trends Shaping The Future Of Coworking Technology

3. Workplace flexibility with enterprise-grade security

Enjoy the flexibility of cloud-based technology, making it easy to scale your coworking space access control infrastructure. Add or remove new doors, access points, lockers, meeting rooms, phone booths, lift access, floors, or locations, anytime and anywhere.

Redefine your working space security and create a policy for access control with a SALTO-enabled comprehensive smart access coworking technology platform. Give authorized members 24/7 access and restrict drop-in visitors to regular business hours combining physical security with a best-in-class digital keyless experience.

If you prefer to stick with physical tags or keyfobs,’ we have automated the process for you to still provide a modern and efficient solution for your space with smart and seamless tag enrollment.

4. Technology integration is a must

Coworking spaces are no longer just a place to get your work done; they're part of the modern lifestyle. Members expect many additional services and benefits from their coworking space, including a healthy dose of social interaction, access to the latest tech, booking solutions, and even an environment of mindfulness. As such, it's important for you to know that having leading technology integration partnerships is not only common – it's also often required in order to attract and maintain members.

Tech integration is a key feature of coworking spaces, and it's only going to become more important as the industry evolves. Connecting the best working spaces Property Management Systems (PMS), building security, and business technologies to your SALTO access control can provide a seamless and integrated experience for system operators and members that includes ready-to-go integration features by third parties that can be seamlessly integrated into a running process. By linking these systems together, members can easily access the resources they need, whether it's reserving a hotdesk, gaining access, or using specific business technologies. This integration can also provide a more secure and efficient experience for operators, as access to resources can be controlled and monitored in real time. Moreover, by integrating these systems, data can be easily shared and analyzed, which can help make better business decisions and improve the overall user experience following Single Sign On (SSO) standards.

5. Data leverage

Data is the new oil, and it is valuable to make data-driven decisions to improve operational efficiency. If you don't have a strategy to take advantage of this, you're doing yourself a major disservice. It can be used to improve your business, booking rates, energy efficiency, coworking member experience – and if you're smart about it – your revenue.

Data can be leveraged in several ways, the first of which is to monetize access. Increase your revenue by monetizing access to meeting rooms and other available spaces within the office building or coworking space itself (in addition to the traditional membership fees). Use data analytics tools and real-time reporting to maximize your space utilization with real-time occupancy insights. This will provide you with a better understanding of how people are using your workplace with historical data to show occupancy trends and space utilization.

5 Trends Shaping The Future Of Coworking Technology
Coworking Space Management Software - SALTO KS

There’s no denying that coworking spaces are only becoming smarter. As more people choose to work remotely, coworking locations are becoming a go-to for those who want to collaborate with others and be part of a community. The advancements in technology that allow for collaboration and communication will only continue to grow, making it easier than ever before for coworkers from all over the world to share ideas and work together on projects.
