With Salto, we can add new users quickly, block credentials immediately, set times at which external doors are automatically locked, and switch to mobile access at any time. After some initial scepticism, the ability to open doors with a smartphone is now meeting with great interest among our tenants. Overall, our flexibility has improved in many aspects, which was one of our most important goals!

The challenge
Text

Technopark Winterthur was using a traditional mechanical locking system on its internal doors until just a few years ago. Additionally, the main entrance was managed by an outdated mechatronic locking system, which was ultimately discontinued.

The facilities were set to undergo comprehensive renovations to reflect the modern, dynamic nature of the businesses based there. Management was also eager to overhaul the site’s access control system. With extensive changes already in the works, this was the perfect moment to implement an end-to-end smart, electronic solution.

The new system was intended to achieve three key objectives: simplify handover when changing tenants, eliminate the need for cylinder changes and reduce costs, and offer system administrators increased autonomy in altering access credentials.

There was also a desire for greater security. This required an online access control system that provided the ability to monitor both external and internal doors. The solution also had to cover basement areas, changing rooms, and letterboxes throughout the site.

Solution
Text

Following consultation with Salto, the Technopark Winterthur management team opted to implement a versatile, comprehensive smart access solution across the facility. This comprised several elements, including wireless networking, the Salto Virtual Network (SVN), mobile access, and remote, online access control.

Our innovative solution provides coverage for every access point across the site. The five main entrances are equipped with Salto wall readers and controllers, as are the office letterboxes. A further 35 access points use Salto’s smart electronic locks, which are linked to a wireless network via Salto BLUEnet technology. This makes it possible to assign custom access rights to the meeting rooms, both online and in real-time.

These smart locks are also integrated into Salto’s SVN Flex, so system administrators can update access credentials on individual or group profiles at a moment’s notice. In addition, every access point is now mobile-access-capable, meaning tenants can unlock doors on demand using only their smartphones.

Business Case Key benefits
  • Mobile access allows users to lock and unlock doors using just a smartphone.
  • Online access control facilitates room allocation and customisable access rights for users, staff, visitors and service providers, offering a smoother user experience.
  • Wireless network increases security, flexibility, and convenience for accessing coworking spaces, lockers, conference rooms, and more.
  • Real-time updates of access rights on connected doors, adapting access credentials simply and quickly when tenants change.
  • Salto Virtual Network access connects entrances and letterboxes via online wall readers and control units, ensuring more efficient monitoring and oversight throughout the facility.
