It houses a vineyard, winery, hotel, and an impressive farm. It’s known as “Douro’s silent doors,” where tranquility and connection to nature are the primary benefits.
In 2014 Quinta de Ventozelo was acquired by Gran Cruz Group, the largest exporter of port wine in Portugal. Since Gran Cruz Group began processing grapes in 2001, their strategy has been to enhance the enormous potential of the property. This is achieved not only by working on the richness and diversity of its wines, but also on Wine Tourism.

In response to the growing wine tourism industry, the Ventozelo Hotel & Quinta was established in 2019. The renovated Ventozelo Hotel & Quinta now serves as a 4-star hotel with 29 guest rooms. The property has a restaurant that favors the ingredients produced in the farm and region, as well as outdoor pools, a bar, a shared lounge, and an Interpretive Center. The property offers many activities including wine tasting and jeep rides throughout the farm.
In an effort to improve the guest experience, security, and operations, the Ventozelo Hotel & Quinta chose to implement electronic access control from SALTO Systems.
The Ventozelo Hotel & Quinta selected SALTO's exclusive range of Ælement Fusion locks and Design XS Wall Readers, accompanied by the SALTO Space Hospitality access control platform to provide a networked locking solution for over 41 access points, across the property. Back-of-House and guest services door areas of the property that are now outfitted with electronic smart access include the entrance gate, guest houses and rooms, swimming pools, meeting rooms, wine presses, a museum, and also the exclusive Cantina Ventozelo restaurant.
The various buildings on the farm that have been rehabilitated with modern architecture have raised aesthetic considerations. SALTO's Design XS Wall Readers, which feature a modern and stylish design, have adapted to the type of structure required in an outdoor environment, thanks to their ease of installation and a high protection index (IP66). The choice of white finish for the Wall Readers added a contemporary and fresh touch to the farm’s architecture without neglecting the security of the access points outside.
For the guest room doors, Ventozelo chose the SALTO Ælement Fusion lock which features an elegant white reader accentuated by an interactive light ring that lights up when access credentials are presented. To accompany the lock, they chose the Jakarta handle from SALTO's premium line of handles, thus elevating the elegance and exclusivity that the farm offers its guests.
The SALTO Space Hospitality access control management platform proved to be the ideal solution, as it was integrated with the facility’s Property Management System (PMS), enabling highly efficient management on a single platform. This includes SALTO Virtual Network (SVN) technology that allows information to be updated, read, received, and written via its smart cards every time they are presented at an access point. Ventozelo Hotel & Quinta has also chosen to incorporate SALTO BLUEnet technology which delivers real-time control of the doors by remotely sending the latest user access information throughout the property.
Ventozelo employees and guests are able to use SALTO's JustIN Mobile technology which gives them the convenient and powerful option to use their smartphone as a door key via NFC and BLE technologies. This capability allows guests to gain convenience without sacrificing security, while property managers elevate the project with a solution that guests really value.
