As a proud member of Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), Salto is committed to supporting the delivery of healthy, low-impact, and net-zero carbon products as part of a circular economy. Salto's flagship products, the XS4 Original and XS4 One, offer sustainable smart access solutions that can significantly boost a building’s Green Star rating.
Understanding Green Star and Responsible Products
The Green Star rating system, operated by GBCA, evaluates the environmental sustainability of the built environment, from buildings and fit-outs to entire precincts. Achieving Green Star certification involves incorporating sustainable practices and materials, with credits awarded for using “Responsible Products.” These products are evaluated based on their environmental credentials, focusing on sustainable sourcing, production, and disposal.
Under the GBCA Green Star Buildings V1 rating system, a building must achieve at least a 4 Star rating to be considered a green building. This rating signifies 'Best Practice' in environmental performance. To attain a 4 Star rating, a project must earn a minimum of 45 points out of a possible 100. The Green Star rating scale is as follows:
- 4 Star Green Star: 45–59 points (Best Practice)
- 5 Star Green Star: 60–74 points (Australian Excellence)
- 6 Star Green Star: 75–100 points (World Leadership)
These ratings assess various aspects of sustainability, including energy efficiency, water usage, indoor environment quality, and materials selection. Achieving a higher number of points reflects a greater commitment to sustainable building practices.
Salto’s XS4 Original and XS4 One smart access products have an Environmental Production Declaration (EPD), a tool that assesses environmental impact throughout a product’s life cycle. With this certification, these systems are recognised as Responsible Products under the Responsible Products Guidelines.
The Value of Responsible Product Certification
Salto’s EPD-certified products carry a Responsible Product Value (RPV) of 5, allowing Green Star project teams to earn credits by including them in their projects.
The inclusion of certified products like Salto's XS4 systems in Green Star submissions not only ensures compliance with sustainability requirements but also provides tangible benefits to a building’s environmental footprint.
Why Choose Salto for Green Star Projects?
