Offering end-to-end contactless experiences and increasing operational flexibility, OpenKey and Salto smart access technology allow guests to check in and out of hotel rooms and unlock doors with the OpenKey app. It's the fastest, most efficient, and secure way to give guests access to a room.
OpenKey offers a smart, or digital, key that has the latest technology used in the hospitality industry. It allows a guest secure access to their room through the use of Bluetooth LE technology in both the smartphone and door lock. When a guest makes a reservation, the hotel sends an email invitation to download the OpenKey application which is available for free on both iOS and Android operating systems. Once the app is downloaded, the guest scans in identification (their driver's license or passport), enabling a front desk bypass. The app is then used to open a guest room door that's secured by a Salto electronic lock.
The app doesn't just open doors, however. Guests can use it to access property Wi-Fi codes and other hotel tasks – housekeeping and other services, Do Not Disturb messages, calls to the front desk – directly from within the OpenKey app.
Once a guest has successfully downloaded and used the OpenKey app at one hotel, it can then be used in the future at any hotel using the platform.

OpenKey manages the Salto guest journey by creating mobile key sessions and sending key requests along encrypted channels to the Salto server. Upon eligibility verification, Salto issues the key and the guest is able to access the room and any common areas via the OpenKey app.
