World Environment Day turns global gaze towards land restoration
Salto celebrates World Environment Day by cleaning over 225 kg of waste!
Salto celebrates World Environment Day by cleaning over 225 kg of waste!
The recent 51st edition of World Environment Day marked a record-breaking success, with an unprecedented 3,854 official events and millions of online engagements highlighting humanity's role in addressing the often-overlooked challenges of land degradation, desertification, and drought.
Salto team enthusiastically observed World Environment Day by working together to restore the ecosystem surrounding the Salto factory in northern Spain. Through our collective efforts, we successfully recovered over 225 kg of waste from the mountains and green spaces near our Salto workplace.
- Waste: 165 kg
- Plastic packaging: 25 kg
- Metal: 16 kg
- Paper: 3,12 kg
- Glass: 15,81 kg

According to the United Nations, up to 40% of the planet's land is degraded, emphasizing the critical need for ecosystem restoration. The global community continues to make strides in the conservation and restoration of our natural surroundings. Every individual contribution adds to the collective impact towards a sustainable future, and we are proud to be a part of it!

Support Sustainable Development and Climate Action
The UN launched its sustainable development agenda in 2015, reflecting the growing understanding by Member States that a development model that is sustainable for this and future generations offers the best path forward for reducing poverty and improving the lives of people everywhere. At the same time, climate change began making a profound impact on the consciousness of humanity. With the polar ice caps melting, global sea levels rising, and cataclysmic weather events increasing in ferocity, no country in the world is safe from the effects of climate change.

Guided by social responsibility and governed by ethical and legal requirements, we remain conscious at Salto that we are just one part of a much broader framework. This is why Salto has established sustainability guidelines and principles for our projects and operations that reinforce our commitment to the value that life matters most. In fact, Salto commits to be 100 per cent carbon neutral for its supply chain and products by 2040. We’ve already achieved carbon neutrality today for our corporate emissions worldwide. And we aren’t done by any means. We plan to bring our entire carbon footprint to net zero by 2040 with our Climate Change Policy 2023-2030.
As part of these efforts, our SALTO WECOSYSTEM climate change policies and roadmap will lower emissions with a series of innovative actions, including:
- Governance for carbon neutrality
- Promote low-carbon energy consumption
- Establish sustainable mobility and logistics
- Sustainable purchases
- Base the business on the circular economy

We want to take this occasion to thank you for being a part of #GenerationRestoration and contributing to the success of this year's World Environment Day! The journey towards land restoration, desertification mitigation, and drought resilience continues beyond just one day.
Let's embrace the spirit of #GenerationRestoration today—and every day—as we work together to create a healthier planet for future generations.

Transforming Hotel Guest Experiences with Digital and Mobile Access
Digital keys are a relatively new technology; they are quickly revolutionising the hospitality industry and are being adopted by major hotel brands globally.
Digital keys are a relatively new technology; they are quickly revolutionising the hospitality industry and are being adopted by major hotel brands globally. Their potential to completely transform the hotel check-in and room access experience is unmatched.
Mobile access technology has transformed the hotel guest experience by eliminating the hassle of physical key cards and check-in queues. Digital keys allow guests to access their rooms with their smartphones effortlessly. This seamless process not only saves time and energy but also adds value to the guest experience and engagement, and helps hotels save money and improve day-to-day efficiency. Guests now have the convenience of remote check-in, receiving digital keys in advance, and bypassing the front desk entirely. This newfound freedom empowers guests to have greater control over their stay, ultimately enhancing their overall satisfaction and convenience.
Today’s travellers are looking for a balance of technological and human innovations, deeper connections and care, embedded wellness experiences, and more—and digital keys are the ideal solution, making travel more accessible, personalized, and efficient.

How do digital keys work?
Digital keys unlock new levels of keyless convenience for hotels and other accommodations. With this innovative technology, guests can use a smartphone as a digital room key, bypassing the front desk and cutting wait times to almost zero.
Digital keys – which are also referred to as mobile keys – work through a hotel's mobile app, or by using smartphone features like Apple Wallet. Salto also delivers digital keys via its own mobile application, the JustIN Mobile technology, and Salto Space or Salto KS solution. Guests can simply download the app and fill in their profile and reservation details. The key provider then generates a secure digital key and transmits it to the guest's phone “Over the Air” (OTA) using Bluetooth or NFC technology.
Once properly set up, guests simply open the app and hold their phone to the door lock to gain access to the hotel room.
Benefits of digital keys for guests and staff
Digital keys offer numerous benefits to both hotels and guests, including:
- Enhances guest satisfaction: Enable guest service innovations creating value-add opportunities to drive business to your hotel, enhancing the guest experience.
- Convenience: Provide the modern, easy access option guests increasingly expect with digital keys or keycards giving convenient, instant, and safe access.
- Faster check-in experience: Guests using their smartphones as room keys can skip the front desk, allowing staff to focus on delivering excellent guest service, ultimately enhancing the overall stay.
- Simplified front office operations: Simplify and automate guest key management processes and free up staff to spend more time interacting with guests for a more personalized experience.
- Guest data and insights: Track guest access patterns, such as the frequency and timing of room entries, enabling valuable information
- Enhanced security: Create a security ecosystem that provides safe, convenient, and seamless guest access throughout the property.
- Cost savings: Improve workflows and processes across the business — from reservations to front desk, maintenance to security management, and housekeeping to sales and marketing.
- Eco-friendly technology: Eliminate plastic keycard waste to deliver an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and long-term solution.

Cut wait times with contactless check-in
The most significant advantage of digital keys is the convenience and flexibility they offer. Guests no longer need to go to the front desk to pick up a room keys. Instead, they can check in ahead of their arrival, go straight to the room, and unlock the door using a smartphone. This streamlined process saves time and enhances the check-in experience allowing guests toctart enjoying their stay much sooner.
Studies show that long check-in waiting times can negatively impact hotel guest satisfaction scores. Allowing guests to bypass reception and head straight to a room increases hotel ratings and the number of repeat guests. Additionally, in the age of social distancing, contactless check-in has become more important than ever. With digital keys, guests don't have to stand in line or interact with hotel staff to access a room.
Boost the guest experience
Digital keys provide a seamless guest experience, from check-in to check-out.
- Guests can skip long lines at the front desk by checking in using a smartphone.
- Unlocking rooms is as simple as tapping the phone on the door lock – no more fumbling with keycards or misplaced keys. Also, guests don't have to return to the front desk if their keycard stops working.
- Digital keys give guests access to more than just their room. Many hotels integrate room keys with amenities like the gym, pool, business areas, lifts/elevators, parking garage gates, and more.
- Special offers, discounts, and promotions can be sent directly to a guest's phone via the hotel app, allowing for tailored and timely offers based on their stay patterns and preferences.
- Guests can enjoy seamless access across the hotel, from entrances, perimeter access doors, and elevators, to gyms, business areas, parking, and more.
With digital keys, the guest experience is streamlined and hassle-free. Guests have the entire hotel in the palm of their hands during their stay.
Beyond access control capabilities, digital keys can integrate seamlessly with a hotel’s mobile app and loyalty programs. After downloading the hotel app and connecting to a profile, guests can manage their entire stay from a smartphone. The app lets guests book a room, check in, choose a room, access a digital key, manage requests with hotel staff, order room service, book new services, request assistance, and more. This creates a personalised and interactive guest experience.
By implementing digital keys, hotels can provide guests with maximum convenience, contactless engagement, and a tech-enabled guest experience. Digital keys are a powerful asset for hotels looking to improve and modernise the guest journey.

A worthwhile investment
Digital keys are an exciting innovation for the hospitality industry that provides numerous benefits for hotels and guests. While transitioning to digital keys involves challenges like upfront costs and learning curves, the long-term benefits make it a worthwhile investment.
Digital key technology represents an important step forward for the hospitality industry. The advantages for both hotels and guests ensure that they will play a key role in the industry's future.
Combining easy access, digital keys, and smart guest rooms with unified property management systems that protect individuals and assets is a unique challenge for every hospitality business. Setting new standards in marine and cruise ship access control
Salto sets sail to revolutionise the cruise experience with smart access control solutions that bring security, flexibility, and comfort to maritime travel.
Salto sets sail to revolutionise the cruise experience with smart access control solutions that bring security, flexibility, and comfort to maritime travel.
From luxurious cruise liners to rugged commercial freighters, the marine industry faces unparalleled security challenges. The ability to efficiently manage access to the various areas of the ship – be it passenger cabins, crew quarters, or restricted areas – is critical to ensuring operational safety and strict compliance with international maritime regulations.
The nature of a cruise ship’s environment is unique: constantly at sea and isolated from immediate external support, it makes having efficient, self-contained access control systems all the more important. These systems must not only respond promptly to emergencies, but also maintain the integrity of access control in all situations, providing a reliable backbone for operations on any marine vessel.
The importance of smart access control
Smart access control systems are key to meeting the dynamic security needs of the marine industry. They overcome the limitations of traditional lock and key mechanisms by offering a more adaptable, scalable, and programmable approach to security.
For structures as complex as cruise ships, which often operate essentially as floating cities, the implementation of smart technology is not a luxury – it’s a necessity. Smart access systems ensure that only authorised individuals gain access to sensitive or restricted areas, significantly reducing the risk of inadvertent or malicious intrusion and potential security breaches.
Additionally, these systems can be programmed to adjust access rights in real-time, providing flexibility and adaptability to the ever-changing demands of cruise ships.

Salto marine solutions: key features and benefits
Salto stands at the forefront of this technological evolution, offering a suite of smart access solutions tailored for the marine industry. The wide-ranging features we provide include:
-
Keyless entry. Increase security by eliminating the need for traditional keys that can be lost or copied. Keyless systems also improve ease of use by granting instant access at the touch of a button.
-
Advanced security. Salto incorporates the highest standards of encryption and security protocols to protect against unauthorised access attempts and ensure that all data transmitted within the system is secure.
-
Integrated management. Our centralised, end-to-end platform helps manage access control across the entire ship for improved operational efficiency and security oversight. It also allows for real-time adjustments and monitoring, essential features in a dynamic maritime environment.
-
Compliance. Salto’s smart solutions are developed with rigorous care to meet and exceed stringent maritime security standards, earning the confidence of operators and passengers alike and positioning Salto as a leader in marine security solutions.
By integrating easy access, digital key management, ID administration, and smart locking mechanisms into one unified platform, Salto delivers solutions that simplify operations and enhance security in all maritime environments – plus a seamless and secure keyless experience that future-proofs maritime access technology.
Salto delivers solutions that simplify operations and enhance security in all maritime environments.

Enhancing passenger and crew experience
To enhance the onboard experience for passengers and crew, we leverage the latest in smart access technology to create a seamless, personalised, and secure environment. Our keyless entry systems, powered by Salto’s digital key and contactless technology, provide an unparalleled level of convenience and flexibility. Passengers can start their journey with ease, bypassing traditional check-in procedures for a streamlined digital process.
The JustIN Mobile app allows passengers to manage access directly from their smartphones. For example, they can instantly change their access rights, ensuring that access is only granted when necessary. This not only adds another layer of personal convenience, but also enhances security. For families in particular, the ability to track and manage access in real-time provides additional peace of mind.
For crew members, the benefits of Salto’s smart solutions include operational efficiency. Eliminating physical keys reduces how much time they spend on key management, allowing the crew to focus on providing high-quality guest services. In addition, Salto’s integrated management platform offers real-time monitoring of access events, enabling rapid response to any security or operational needs. This integration also extends to on-board facilities management: Salto’s solutions help streamline operations, reducing maintenance time and infrastructure costs.

Compliance with maritime security standards
Compliance with international maritime security standards is more than a regulatory requirement; it’s a fundamental element of trust and reliability in marine operations. Our smart solutions range is designed to meet the stringent requirements of maritime security protocols, ensuring that every aspect of access control – from data encryption to physical security – meets or exceeds the highest industry standards.
This commitment to security and compliance is reflected in Salto’s integration with existing onboard security systems such as CCTV and fire alarms. By creating a cohesive security ecosystem, our solutions enhance the overall safety of the maritime environment.
Furthermore, our centralised cruise management software provides the ability to manage multiple security threats simultaneously. Operators gain a comprehensive view of security operations, making it easier to ensure that all measures are in place to protect passengers, crew, and assets.

Sailing into the future with Salto
The evolving maritime security landscape demands innovative, reliable answers, and Salto is leading the market with an advanced suite of smart access control solutions. By adopting Salto technologies, ship operators can navigate the complex waters of maritime security challenges with confidence, while boosting the safety and satisfaction of passengers and crew alike.
We invite all marine stakeholders to embark on a journey with Salto and explore the transformative potential of our access control solutions to improve ship operations and set new standards in maritime security.

Expanding Horizons: Unveiling the new SALTO WECOSYSTEM
A new era begins as we launch the SALTO WECOSYSTEM.
A new era begins as we launch the SALTO WECOSYSTEM.
Friends of SALTO recently gathered from all over the world for our Expanding Horizons internal congress. Set in San Sebastián – a city famed for its scenery, gastronomy, history, and culture – it was the perfect backdrop for four days of collaboration and innovation.

Key highlights from the congress
Expanding Horizons took place from 22-25 January at the Kursaal Congress Centre. It was a lively experience, filled with eye-opening talks, discussions, and team bonding exercises. Attendees also enjoyed several performances and networking events, sharing ideas while experiencing all that the beautiful San Sebastián has to offer.
Through a series of talks and keynote addresses, various speakers took the stage to explore the future of access control. They emphasised the need to reimagine current solutions in light of emerging challenges, and what it takes to deliver inspiring, next-generation smart access.
Attendees delved into problem-solving with a set of challenge sprints, where they tackled several relevant business and branding challenges. They also took a tour of our state-of-the-art factory and set aside time to mingle at iconic locations across the city, including the San Telmo Museum, the Basque Culinary Centre, and more.
Ramesh Gurdev, managing director at SALTO UK, reflects on the event, stating, ‘The congress here is the heart of Salto; it’s been fantastic. Expanding Horizons has opened up a whole new avenue of innovation, collaboration, and everything else you would expect from a fast-paced, fast-moving company’.

However, the biggest highlight of the event was the unveiling of the SALTO WECOSYSTEM, a new umbrella platform bringing together our three core brands – Salto, Gantner, and Vintia.
What is the SALTO WECOSYSTEM?
The SALTO WECOSYSTEM was launched recently in a strategic move that ushers in the next era of smart access. This new identity establishes our core brands under a single brand platform ecosystem, streamlining each brand’s expertise in pursuit of a common mission:
- Salto: Pioneering smart building access, identity management, and electronic locking solutions.
- Gantner: Smart, reliable identification, access, cashless payment, and locker solutions to optimise processes, efficiency, and security.
- Vintia: Innovative ticketing and booking solutions for the leisure and attractions sector.
The concept was unveiled at Expanding Horizons, with its central goal being to empower smart access to places, experiences, and opportunities. One of its key attributes can be found in the name itself; rather than simply an ecosystem, it is a WECOSYSTEM: the glue that binds our clients, staff, suppliers, and certified partners together, and to society as a whole.
The SALTO WECOSYSTEM aims to continuously push technological boundaries – all while taking on a conscious responsibility for our environment. By focusing on holistic solutions, it promises to champion sustainability side by side with innovation.
Bill Wood, president of SALTO in North America, shares, ‘The SALTO WECOSYSTEM is going to be an incredible enabler for the initiatives that we’ve already begun. The team is energised around the elevation that it brings, and the opportunity for us to create amazing new synergies with a portfolio of products that continues to expand’.

WeConnectors
During the internal congress, attendees also discovered the SALTO WECOSYSTEM’s key underlying values, or WeConnectors. They include:
- Proximity to people. How can we improve people’s daily lives through smarter access solutions?
- Passion for innovation. Our goal is ultimately to push the status quo and exceed expectations constantly.
- Connection to each other. This is a fundamental idea that emphasises working together to better the planet.
- Agility in thinking. This is a guarantee that moving forward, there will be further innovation, out-of-the-box thinking, and smarter access control solutions.
- Integrity at every step. Just as important is our commitment to creating a positive impact on the world, championing honesty and efficiency.
These pillars of thought encapsulate the SALTO WECOSYSTEM goal and how it will be achieved and maintained, both now and in the future.

Connecting our core brands
A new brand platform and visual identity further solidify the new collaborative platform between Salto, Gantner, and Vintia. The SALTO WECOSYSTEM, however, is more than just new branding.
As a unified front, there is now a greater opportunity for each company to play to its strengths, creating an environment where it’s possible to reshape the future of innovation in access control.
Evidence of the SALTO WECOSYSTEM is already available. In a just-completed theme park project, for example, Vintia provided the ticketing software, Salto the smart door locks, and Gantner supplied the smart locker locks. We expect to replicate such synergy in future endeavours as the SALTO WECOSYSTEM continues to grow and evolve.
Edwin Hemkes, the CEO of Vintia, says, ‘The identity we are creating in the SALTO WECOSYSTEM is that we are getting closer together. We are combining strengths – from Salto, from Gantner, and from Vintia – in building new products that the market really needs’.

The future calls for unified platforms that think beyond the norm and keep up with rapidly changing environments through cutting-edge access solutions. As the pace of change quickens, so will the rate of opportunities. But with the SALTO WECOSYSTEM, we will be able to stay ahead of the curve, providing the connectivity and smart access needs of a digital society.

Smart access control technology for safer, more secure airports
Enhance airport security with a high-tech access control system.
Security remains a top priority for all transportation facilities, including airports, ferry terminals, ports, bus and train stations, and more. Every day, thousands of passengers, workers, luggage, and cargo pass through those doors on their way to their destinations. And they rely on transport providers to get them there safely, on time, and as comfortably as possible.
Transportation hubs, with their complex and sprawling infrastructures, contain multiple points of vulnerability that require controlled access. They don’t just need to provide a safe, secure environment – they must also ensure that the flow of passengers and staff is not impeded by the very access measures designed to safeguard them.
Why consider an access control system?
Access control is essential in keeping airports and other transportation facilities — and everyone inside them — protected. It is a key component in avoiding bottlenecks, delays, and disruption in areas used by thousands each hour.
Building a resilient transportation hub that can adapt to emergencies and operational disruptions is a huge task, and cannot be managed with mechanical keys alone. To ensure the overall operational efficiency and protection of your hub, an advanced access control system that is smart, flexible, scalable, wire-free, and user-friendly is necessary.
Smart access control systems installed in airports can lead to a variety of benefits, including:
- Improved security: Limits access to authorized personnel.
- Increased connectivity and integration: Works with other security systems.
- Streamlined operations: Control and modify access remotely.
- Better surveillance and oversight: Monitor and record entry and exit.
- A convenient keyless experience: Replace the hassle of physical keys. Help staff, users or visitors come and go more easily.
- No more lost keys: Eliminate mechanical keys, lock replacements, and complicated systems configurations.
- Save time and reduce expenses: Increases efficiency, reduces the costs for enhanced airport security.
- Customizable Access: Tailor individual access privileges.

- Enhanced safety
Since safety is of utmost importance within airports, it’s necessary to consider the level of customisation provided by high-tech access control systems. The mix of people you can find in an airport at any given moment is extensive, ranging from passengers to airport employees, airline staff, and contractors. Understanding all these moving parts — and keeping track of them effectively — is paramount to airport security.
With SALTO’s access control solutions, you can easily tweak the system to suit your security requirements, infrastructure, and unique organisational needs. For instance, you can set different levels of access for different users through a fast, simple process. Additionally, you can keep restricted areas secure with tailored credentials, monitor access incidents, grant or revoke access remotely, receive real-time headcounts and security updates, and so much more. Improved security protocols will lead to safer airports and happier customers and staff.
- No more mechanical keys: experience simplified operations
SALTO’s best-in-class smart access control technology simplifies access management in this complex environment by offering airport operators complete control. SALTO’s solutions work with any door, including emergency exits, wooden, metal and glass doors, elevators, sliding doors, and parking entrances. You can even add our hardware and technology platform to doors with existing locks – without any extra wiring or modification. Our single, flexible, and powerful platform is convenient for operators and efficient for passengers and workers, who require precise, fast, automated access permission.
How do we help you eliminate cumbersome mechanical keys without compromising security, convenience, or control? This is achieved with our state-of-the-art, wire-free electronic access control solutions, saving you time, money, and hassle. SALTO’s access systems allow operators to easily monitor and manage access control for maximum operational efficiency. Being wire-free means that the system is easy to install and maintain. You can add it to doors with existing locks fast and easily, at no additional cost. Installations can be completed in just a few hours, saving you time and money while preventing any sort of disruption to your operations.
- 24/7 monitoring for increased visibility
A smart access control solution lets you protect airport perimeters or building access points with complete ease. With our centralised system, you can assign who can access what and when — all the way down to an individual level and in real-time. It also gives you the ability to grant time-controlled access to staff or delivery services remotely, greatly improving ease of operations.
The system provides 24/7 audit trail information, giving airline management full control over security and operational requirements. It also allows you to track:
- Traffic flow
- Times of entry and exit
- Attempted foul play
- Misuse
Furthermore, you can access up-to-date reports on access activity. With this functionality, you will be alerted to any after-hours access or probable intruders on site, safeguarding the airport from theft, vandalism, sabotage, and industrial espionage. All of this is bolstered by the system’s high responsiveness, which boosts performance, efficiency, and user-friendliness.
- Improved management overall
From a management perspective, you can adjust access permissions and schedules on the spot through SALTO’s access control system. This includes the ability to revoke access credentials for terminated employees or tenants immediately, helping you maintain high levels of security at all times.
In addition, you can receive real-time updates on passenger volumes and in-depth insights from current and historical data. In this way, you’ll have real numbers to streamline operations and make better-informed decisions that boost airport security.

Enhanced security delivered worldwide

Foxbox Digital has integrated with the SALTO KS API to accommodate our joint end customer, The X Company: A rapidly expanding multifamily residential community with over 5,000 units and $1 Billion in construction activity.
The X Company has two of the most significant SALTO KS installations (and will expand to a total of six buildings in the US).
We’ve asked Foxbox Digital some questions to find out what this interesting integration exactly entails and what it means for the Foxbox Digital and the X Company:
What exactly is Foxbox Digital, what do you guys offer, and to whom?
“Foxbox Digital is an award-winning digital product agency headquartered in Chicago. We partner with startups and SMBs to design, develop, and deliver successful digital experiences across mobile and web. Foxbox is ranked #121 on the 2022 Inc 5000 and is the 11th fastest-growing software company in the US.”
Through the technology we create, we help customers automate their back-office operations and drive more revenue through customer engagement.
Can you explain why you decided to collaborate with SALTO KS for the X Company?
“Delivering reliability and security to residents meant The X Company needed technology that succeeded where previous tools had fallen short. SALTO KS provided the perfect combination of robust capability and customization for the type of custom integration the challenge required.”
How does the integration with SALTO KS help the X company's tenants and building managers?
“Both residents and community managers are able to not only remotely access personal apartment locks but also access other amenities in the same seamless experience.”
How did this integration with SALTO KS change the business for Foxbox Digital and the X Company?
“The X Company needed a platform that delivered on its disruptive vision for the multifamily residential real estate industry. The SALTO KS integration played a critical role in giving them all the tools they needed to support residents and expand their reach.”
How does Foxbox Digital help companies to scale?
“Foxbox Digital helps companies scale by designing and building world-class digital products and successfully bringing them to market. Through the technology we create, we help customers automate their back-office operations and drive more revenue through customer engagement.”

Naturally, innovative technology had to play a crucial role. Now, residents can seamlessly grant access to a visiting friend, book a conference room, and alert community managers of a dishwasher that needs fixing.
What is the most requested feature you ever received?
“X Company has a modern vision for their living spaces in which the "roommates" may not always know each other before living at X but instead are paired up by the X team. This is part of their vision to create a more social community where people can move from all over the globe and meet new people.
SALTO KS locks are used on all room- and individual-bedroom doors because they provide an added layer of safety and security, especially since the roommates might not know each other initially and need time to build trust.
However, we saw an overwhelming interest in being able to set bedroom doors to a default unlocked state where they would not lock every time they were closed. This would allow residents to navigate into their bedrooms more easily and not need to unlock them whenever they needed to get in. This was supported with the "Remote Office Mode" feature in SALTO KS, allowing people to set a lock to a default unlocked state.”
Can you give a few examples of the X Company's ‘modern coworking options’ and how Foxbox Digital has helped them to offer these?
“The X Company’s core value proposition is based on a hybrid live-work-play experience built on state-of-the-art spaces and amenities. Naturally, innovative technology had to play a crucial role. Now all within one platform, residents can seamlessly grant access to a visiting friend, book a conference room, and alert community managers of a dishwasher that needs fixing. Plus, with a real-time analytics dashboard, community managers and leadership at The X Company can analyze and improve the resident experience in real-time.”
What ‘problem’ or challenge did SALTO KS solve for Foxbox Digital and the X Company?
“The integration with SALTO KS allowed us to ensure the platform's digital lock capabilities provided the most secure, easy-to-use, and reliable resident experience possible.”
What would you like to see for SALTO KS to support Foxbox Digital’s plans in the future?
“Foxbox aims to be SALTO KS’ go-to integration partner. We have the experience and expertise to develop custom digital products using SALTO KS. We help commercial real estate, multi-family residential, and hospitality clients deliver modern digital access experiences using SALTO KS.”
Three of the biggest benefits of the integration with SALTO KS:
1. Mobile/Keyless entry that works online and offline. The X Company App allows residents to access every door from their bedroom to the garage and shared spaces. It even works when users aren’t connected to the internet.
2. Grant and revoke resident access in an instant, securely. The X Company platform is secured by multi-factor authentication, with additional back-end security protection that protects residents when they lose phone access.
3. Sharing visitor access. The app can grant temporary and secure access to friends, family, dog walkers, and more from within the app.

Securing access control in utilities and critical infrastructure with Salto
Securing physical utility infrastructure is essential for ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of critical services and safeguarding them from potential threats.
Critical infrastructure is broadly understood as the facilities and services that are vital to the basic operations of a society. Safeguarding these lifelines of the modern world is already a crucial consideration, but one which is likely to become even more important as resources grow scarce in the coming years. Successfully limiting access to natural resources and securing information presents an array of challenges that will require the implementation of innovative solutions.
With thousands of public and private utility companies worldwide looking to keep their assets safe, SALTO has responded by providing comprehensive access control for critical infrastructure sites. From perimeter protection to smart access for both people and vehicles, we have availed a host of high-tech security management solutions specifically designed for these use cases:
- Perimeter protection and smart access for people and vehicles
- Flexible, cost-effective security management by a remote operator
- Audit trail to monitor people entering and leaving potentially hazardous or high-risk areas 24/7
- Automated entry for pre-approved users
- Managed access for both visitors and staff without the need for physical keys
- Keyless smart access, allowing operators to grant or revoke access credentials instantly
- Tailored security levels for sites, buildings, rooms, or even server room cabinets, ensuring you always have the right level of protection
Types of physical security solutions for critical infrastructure
Securing physical utility infrastructure guarantees the continuous operation of critical services, protecting them from becoming potential targets for attacks or other criminal activity.
Access control systems: Locks, key cards, biometric scanners, and other mechanisms to ensure that only authorised individuals can enter certain areas.
Salto’s smart access solutions help keep entire sites secure. Starting with perimeter control, our systems’ capabilities extend to specific high-value areas or assets – wherever they are located. Our cutting-edge technologies safeguard all access points using keyless solutions that allow individuals to lock or unlock doors via a smart key or mobile device. Coupled with a sophisticated capacity for analytics and tracking, the result is a complete, cost-effective, and efficient security system that permits remote monitoring of multiple sites from a single control room.

Access control is the most vital of all physical security measures. That said, there are several other types of physical access control solutions that public and private utility infrastructure operators can consider:
- Physical barriers: Walls, bollards, or other structures designed to prevent unauthorised access or mitigate the impact of a physical attack.
- Security personnel: Guards, security officers, or police can patrol infrastructure sites, respond to incidents, and act as a deterrent.
- Surveillance systems: Cameras, drones, and other surveillance technologies are able to monitor infrastructure sites in order to detect unusual activity or threats.
- Intrusion detection systems: These systems can detect when someone tries to breach a physical barrier or gain access to a restricted area.
Access control for industry applications
Physical security solutions for utilities and critical infrastructure are suitable for various real-world applications. At Salto, we have tailored our access control solutions to meet the needs of specific industries and sectors, including:
- Power and Energy: Boost situational awareness and quickly address incidents in upstream, midstream, and downstream activities. Ensure a stable and reliable flow of power at all times, from power generation to distribution.
- Gas and Water Treatment: Protect, maintain, and operate all functions of gas and water treatment plants, including water production, sewage, and wastewater.
- Telecommunications: Keep communication towers safe and secure with advanced surveillance solutions that ensure consistent and reliable transmission at all times.

The top 4 benefits of access control for critical infrastructure
Millions of locking systems are used by utility companies all around the world every day. However, it is both time-consuming and expensive to constantly monitor these locks, ensure compliance with safety and security regulations, and keep high-value assets secure. Salto is transforming access control for critical infrastructure by providing streamlined solutions for every access point on site – from gates, entryways, and control rooms, to valves, lockers, cabinets, and more.
Securing utilities presents several unique challenges. Facilities are often located in remote areas, with numerous entry points spread over significant distances and limited management staff. As a result, they often require restricted access to high-risk and hazardous areas, such as underground sites, explosives store rooms, or machinery operating rooms.

Consequently, investing in physical infrastructure security comes with 3 notable benefits for utilities and critical infrastructure installations:
- Intrusion protection: Detect, identify, and track intruders in real-time. Integrate access control and smart audit analytics into existing security systems.
- Operational efficiency: Optimise production and maintenance services and avoid downtimes. Support process monitoring and predictive maintenance to boost productivity and efficiency.
- Compliance, safety, and security: Keep your workforce safe with cost-effective ways to monitor policy adherence, evaluate risks, and offer rapid support during emergencies.
- Operations and maintenance: Eliminate mechanical keys and complicated system configurations. Improve maintenance planning and reduce on-site staff requirements. Perform remote installation diagnostics, run reports, check battery status, and many other actions.

Salto’s smart access solutions reduce the need for physical patrols by offering the functionality to remotely monitor an entire site – or several sites – with minimal false alarms. This, in turn, helps utilities and critical infrastructure operators to:
- Reduce risk
- Prevent unauthorised access
- Provide operational continuity
- Safeguard insurance and reduce liability
- Ensure flexibility and visibility
- Build confidence among various stakeholders
- Ensure regulatory compliance
How Salto Systems can help
Salto offers a centralised, web-based access control solution for high-security, real-time monitoring, and remote area control. Our intelligent access control systems enable access-level settings at critical entry zones such as main production plants, engine rooms, water storage, and chemical waste areas. We strongly believe in embracing diversity and solidarity for all, and that equal accessibility is a fundamental birthright, which is why we are proud to sponsor Free2move.org.
What is Free2Move?
Free2move was created to drive social change, specifically around accessibility to sport for people with physical disabilities. As part of our ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) policy, the initiative aims to connect, inspire and uplift individuals within the disabled community.
To encourage more people to engage with and support the Free2move initiative, we are in the throes of relaunching the Free2move website. The website has been revamped to better showcase the projects the initiative supports, as well as promote the various athletes, sports teams, and their relevant parasports.
How does Free2move work?
Free2move.org champions over 10 social development projects across individual and team sports.
We understand that for sports to be more inclusive of the disabled community, they need to be adaptive. Adaptive sports allow more adults and children with physical disabilities to get off the sidelines and take part. Free2move.org supports a number of adaptive sports. Visit free2move.org to learn more about athletics, wheelchair basketball, para-triathlon, hand-bike, winter sports, wheelchair fencing, and more.
SALTO Systems recognizes the benefits that sport has for mental and physical health. Not only does sport give one a sense of accomplishment, but it also allows people to socialize with others and find a sense of belonging. Free2move aims to do just that for the disabled community.
Athletes with disabilities also deserve a platform to showcase their achievements. Free2move.org is proud to host a website that gives our athletes the recognition they deserve. The website showcases a community that leads a life of excellenc and tehe performances and stories of our athletes teach others valuable lessons. Through this website, we show the value of acceptance and appreciation for anyone with a disability.
Our goal is that these inspiring athletes will encourage others, break stigmas and persuade more people to participate in sports.

Free2Move is about social inclusion in sport
The Free2move initiative aims to raise global awareness of adaptive sports in the hope that it increases access for physically disabled people in these sports.
SALTO Systems knows how important it is for people to have role models they can relate to and identify with. The Free2move website showcases these athletes to inspire a younger generation. When people, like our athletes, can be shown to live a life of excellence, this can inspire others to lead their best lives too.
SALTO focuses on a range of social initiatives with Free2move
Free2move is proud to focus on many social initiatives within parasports.
Free2move goes beyond just sports programs, however. We are also focused on non-profit humanitarian organizations as part of our social initiatives. As SALTO Systems has 40 offices worldwide, each branch takes it upon itself to improve the lives of its local communities.
SALTO Systems works with local non-profit humanitarian organizations in each branches’ respective location. We assist with financial grants, partnerships, and investments. Our goals include supporting disaster recovery, addressing the needs of children, protecting displaced community members, and improving living conditions for the underprivileged.
As a company with a strong ESG program, we enable our employees to get involved to help improve the lives of their fellow community members. Many of our employees take part in our volunteer programs.
