A Milestone Salto Ireland Partner Summit at Cliff at Lyons
SALTO WECOSYSTEM Ireland’s inaugural Partner Summit was a standout moment for our Irish partner community.
SALTO WECOSYSTEM Ireland’s inaugural Partner Summit was a standout moment for our Irish partner community. Over two days, valued partners from across the country gathered at the stunning Cliff at Lyons for an event designed to connect, inspire, and strengthen our shared commitment to smart access innovation.
Opening remarks: A focus on connection and shared purpose
The Summit began with a welcome from Kieran Gorey, Ireland SALTO WECOSYSTEM Manager, who spoke to the value of bringing the Irish partner network together under one roof for the first time.
“What stood out most over these two days was the strength of our community. When we take time to come together, to talk openly, and to learn from one another, we move forward in a much more connected and confident way. The conversations, ideas, and energy in the room showed just how much potential we have as a collective. We leave here aligned, energised, and clear on what we can achieve together.”
Building trust and strengthening relationships in an inspiring setting
From the very beginning, the energy was one of openness and relationship-building. Our purpose for this first-ever Partner Summit was clear — to connect, educate, and empower.
Over two days, the conversations were genuine and forward-looking, with partners and the Salto Ireland team leaning into transparent dialogue and collaborative thinking. This spirit of connection set the tone for the entire event, creating an environment where challenges could be openly discussed and opportunities explored together.
Strategic sessions: Advancing knowledge and empowering partners
Across the Summit, partners took part in focused sessions led by Salto specialists, each designed to deepen understanding of the solutions shaping today’s access landscape. These presentations highlighted real-world use cases, product capabilities, and the evolving needs of the Irish market.

Partners gained practical insights that will support stronger installations, more informed project planning, and enhanced value for end users.
A Glimpse into the future: Exciting product innovations coming in 2026
One of the Summit’s most anticipated moments was an exclusive preview of upcoming product launches planned for 2026. Without revealing too much just yet, these innovations will bring expanded capabilities to the Salto smart access ecosystem, deeper integrations, and new opportunities for partners to grow their businesses.
This forward-looking roadmap reinforced Salto’s commitment to continuous improvement and our partners were among the very first to see what’s next.
Human-to-Human: Two days of connection & collaboration
Beyond the formal sessions, some of the most valuable interactions took place in the informal conversations, during shared meals, networking moments, and the beautiful grounds of Cliff at Lyons.
Partners connected with each other, exchanged insights, and strengthened relationships with the Salto team. These human-to-human experiences are what turn collaboration into long-term partnership and ensure we continue building a thriving Salto Ireland network.
Welcoming Shauna Bocquet and the Salto Foundation
A standout moment of the Summit was welcoming Shauna Bocquet, a rising para-athlete from Co. Galway and the newest member of the SALTO FOUNDATION. Shauna joined partners and the Salto team at lunch, sharing her journey as an international competitor.
Her visit followed a presentation from Ion Murga, Global Marketing Lead, who highlighted the purpose and growing impact of the SALTO FOUNDATION. Shauna’s presence marked the start of an exciting partnership rooted in ambition, resilience, and shared purpose. The Salto team was honoured to welcome her and looks forward to what’s ahead.
Looking ahead: Empowering smarter access
The first Salto Ireland Partner Summit marked the beginning of something significant. The conversations sparked, the insights shared, and the relationships built over these two days will help shape the future of Salto across Ireland.
As one attendee shared, events like this “create space to learn from each other in a way that emails and support tickets simply can’t. Seeing the team, the products, and the roadmap up close gives us new confidence and motivation.”
Our commitment moving forward is clear: to continue empowering partners, supporting growth, and delivering access solutions that transform user experiences across every sector.

Access control is going digital – Are you ready?
For years, plastic smart cards have been the standard in access control. They’ve served organizations well – offering more flexibility and control than traditional keys. But the industry is shifting fast, and the next evolution is already here: digital credentials.
For years, plastic smart cards have been the standard in access control. They’ve served organizations well – offering more flexibility and control than traditional keys. But the industry is shifting fast, and the next evolution is already here: digital credentials.
What was once a forward-thinking concept is now becoming the norm. At Salto, we’ve seen firsthand how the transition from physical cards to mobile and digital access is accelerating – not just as a trend, but as a strategic priority for organizations around the world. These technologies have made access control more secure, convenient, and intuitive than ever before.
From plastic smart key cards to mobile digital keys
Salto introduced its first mobile credential back in 2010. Since then, mobile adoption has grown rapidly, especially with the arrival of BLE and NFC technologies and wallet-based credentials supported by Apple and Google.
Mobile credentials: More than just a key replacement
Moving to mobile isn’t just about replacing a plastic badge with a phone. It’s about delivering a smarter, more secure, and more seamless experience – one that fits into the way people already live and work.
With Salto’s Mobile Access solutions, users can:
- Add access credentials directly to a user, guest, resident, or visitor smartphone
- Unlock doors with a tap of their phone or smartwatch
- Benefit from biometric security (like face recognition)
- Access buildings without needing to carry a physical card, they can use a phone
- Receive or revoke access instantly, anywhere
This is especially valuable for visitors, residents, hotel guests, and hybrid workers, where flexibility and real-time control are key.
Face recognition access control: The next frontier in digital access
Alongside the shift toward mobile credentials, access control is embracing new biometric innovations – with face recognition emerging as a key advancement. With XS4 Face, Salto introduces facial recognition into its access control portfolio, giving users fast, secure, and contactless authentication.
By incorporating digital face credentials, XS4 Face uses advanced algorithms to reliably authenticate enrolled users. This delivers several key benefits:
- Maximum security: Only authorized individuals can gain access, reducing the risk of credential misuse or spoofing.
- Contactless: Fast, intuitive, and hygienic authentication without the need for physical contact – ideal for environments that prioritize both safety and convenience.
- Seamless experience: Mobile enrollment takes just a few simple steps, and access is granted in seconds, eliminating queues and delays.
- Full integration: Designed to work alongside mobile credentials, smart locks, and Salto smart access platforms for a comprehensive solution.
This next stage of digitalization enables organizations to offer access control that is not only more secure and flexible, but also perfectly aligned with modern user expectations for convenience and frictionless technology.
A win for users – and organizations
Mobile credentials and facer recogniton access control technologies offer a better user experience, but they also bring clear advantages for building operators and IT teams:
- Reduce the need for physical cards and printers
- Lower credential management costs
- Streamline onboarding for guests, remote workers, and temporary users
- Strengthen overall security by linking access to verified identities
- Simplify compliance through digital audit trails
As organizations prioritize modern, scalable access control, mobile credentials and face recognition are becoming a cornerstone of that transformation.
The shift is already happening
The move from plastic to mobile is no longer just a future plan – it’s happening now. Forward-thinking organizations are adopting mobile-first strategies to meet rising user expectations and stay ahead of the curve.
At Salto, we’re proud to lead this shift with secure, flexible mobile and face access solutions that help our partners adapt to the changing landscape of access control.
Salto’s fully digital smart access ecosystem
What sets Salto apart in the rapidly-evolving world of access control is our comprehensive smart access ecosystem – a fully integrated solution designed from the ground up to be mobile-first.

Multi-family living: How smart access is changing the resident experience
Smart access control isn’t just a futuristic concept anymore. It’s a vital part of the modern residential experience, and Salto is setting the standard.
Smart access control isn’t just a futuristic concept anymore. It’s a vital part of the modern residential experience, and Salto is setting the standard.
In the age of smart homes and digital convenience, access control in multi-family housing is undergoing a major transformation. Residents no longer expect to carry keychains, wait at the front gate for a delivery, or use a traditional intercom to communicate on-premise. They demand seamless, secure, and mobile-first experiences – at home, at work, and everywhere in between.
Modern access control lies at the heart of this shift, redefining what it means to feel truly at home. We’re taking a look at how smart access is reshaping the resident experience in multi-family living – and why smart access solutions like Salto KS, Salto Space, and Salto Homelok are leading the way.
The rise of smart living in the multi-family sector
Multi-family living is evolving fast. From luxury high-rises to garden-style apartments, residents want more than just four walls and a door. The modern resident requires flexibility, control, and keyless access convenience – especially when it comes to how they access their home and shared spaces.
This demand has driven a surge in the adoption of smart building technologies, with access control systems playing a central role. These solutions hold enormous potential both for residents and property management companies:
- Enables digital credentials via Digital Keys, mobile apps, PIN codes, or smart fobs.
- Integrations with property management systems and smart building platforms.
- Remote management and real-time monitoring
- Enhanced security through granular permissions and detailed audit trails.
- Smart Door intercom, allowing residents to communicate with visitors and unlock doors remotely.
The resident experience – a world of changing expectations
As digital lifestyles continue to evolve, smart access is set to play an even greater role in how residents choose where they want to live. Access control will no longer be viewed as infrastructure – it’ll be part of the amenity package, just like high-speed Wi-Fi or a fitness centre.
Today's renters – Millennials and Gen Z – have come to expect tech-enabled living. In the coming years, features offered by innovative smart access platforms will soon become the norm.
- Mobile-first access: Use your smartphone as a key – no more lost or duplicated key fobs.
- On-demand guest access: Grant temporary access to friends, family, or service providers with ease.
- 24/7 secure entry: Get controlled, trackable access to buildings, parking, gyms, and mailrooms.
- Smart ecosystem: Enjoy a unified experience across doors, elevators, and even intercoms.
As modern access control moves beyond traditional locks and keys, it’s becoming a connected, cloud-based solution that does far more than guarantee security – it enhances everyday life.
For residents, modern access control means:
- Keyless living: Unlock doors with a tap or a swipe.
- Digital guest passes: Share access credentials via app – no physical keys required.
- Delivery-friendly access: Secure package rooms and common areas with seamless access for couriers only during permitted windows.
- Amenity access: Automatically control who can use the gym, pool, or coworking space based on calendar schedules or lease status.
- Peace of mind: Keep track of who’s coming and going from the space at all times.
Door intercom access: welcome guests wherever you are
Smart access doesn’t stop at the front door – it starts there. One of the standout features of modern access systems is smart intercom integration, with solutions like Salto’s XS4 Com allowing residents to communicate with visitors and unlock doors remotely, all in real-time.
Whether it's a friend, family member, or delivery driver, residents can use their smartphone to:
- Receive calls from the building entrance or lobby intercom.
- See who’s at the door via a video stream.
- Remotely unlock the front entrance with a tap.
- Avoid missed deliveries or visitor frustration when not at home.
Benefits for property managers and owners
Modern access control isn’t just for residents, either. It also offers various tools that make life easier for property managers and owners while making buildings smarter, more efficient, and more attractive to future tenants. Some of the benefits include:
- Streamlining operations: Manage access rights remotely from a centralised dashboard.
- Reducing costs: Eliminate rekeying and manual processes.
- Enhancing security: Gain access to real-time logs, alerts, and credential control.
- Boosting retention: Residents stay longer in buildings that feel modern and secure.
- Integrating seamlessly: Solutions like Salto Homelok work with existing PMS and smart building platforms.

We're incredibly proud to share the success of our recent clean-up initiatives, which brought together dedicated teams in Spain and Ireland to make a real difference for World Environment Day 2025.
A Local Effort in with Global Impact
Our team in Salto Oiartzun, Spain, rolled up their sleeves for a powerful display of environmental stewardship at our main workspace and assembly facilities. A fantastic group of 33 participants came together, dedicating their time and energy to clear waste from our local surroundings.
The results were truly impactful: A staggering 304 Kg of waste was removed! This total was carefully sorted, highlighting the diverse nature of the litter we tackle:
- 200 Kg of general waste
- 72 Kg of light packaging
- 32 Kg of glass
This initiative was officially registered on the World Environment Day platform, underscoring our alignment with global efforts to protect our environment. You can see our action on the official map at World Environment Day events and activities.
Our efforts aligned perfectly with the 2025 World Environment Day campaign theme, #BeatPlasticPollution, reinforcing our commitment to reducing plastic waste.
The spirit of environmental action wasn't limited to Spain! Our colleagues in Ireland also took significant steps, organizing their own "basuraleza" (nature litter) clean-up. Partnering with a local youth football team, over 40 enthusiastic participants worked tirelessly, removing 55 Kg of waste from a local beach.
This cross-border collaboration highlights the shared SALTO WeConnectors that inspire our SALTO WECOSYSTEM community worldwide and our collective dedication to positively impacting the environment, whether it’s our urban spaces or our precious coastlines.
Driving Impact: Our Commitment to Sustainability
This World Environment Day is just the beginning of our call to mobilize our communities across the globe to implement and advocate for lasting solutions to #BeatPlasticPollution.
Change happens through all of us. The choices we make can shape industries, shift markets, and redefine our collective future. Together, we can deliver an end to plastic pollution, protecting people and the planet.
These clean-up initiatives are more than just one-off events for Salto. They clearly reflect our enduring commitment to our Sustainability (ESG) strategy and our broader sustainability goals guided by the United Nations’ (UN) similar efforts. By engaging with our communities and taking direct action, we aim to inspire others and contribute to creating and maintaining a greener, plastic-free planet for future generations.
Thank you to every participant, partner, and supporter who made these clean-ups successful. Together, we are truly unlocking a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Creating Safe Worker Accommodations for Women: Industry Trends and Challenges
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress made toward gender equality and to address the challenges that still exist.
Workforce Accommodation poses unique challenges. Worksites operate as complex micro-cities located in remote areas, often in adverse environmental conditions. A complete access control solution must consider not only stringent security and compliance standards but also the needs of FIFO workers and on-site residents, visitors, and staff.
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress made toward gender equality and to address the challenges that still exist. In industries such as mining, where worker accommodations present unique challenges, these reflections are particularly significant. Addressing these issues is critical to fostering inclusive and equitable workplaces.
Challenges Women Face in Mining Accommodations
Women working and residing in remote mining camps encounter numerous challenges that demand attention:
- Isolation and Vulnerability: Mining sites operate as complex micro-cities. Many worksites are located in remote areas, often in adverse environmental conditions with limited connectivity, leaving women feeling isolated and vulnerable to potential risks. Bridging these gaps requires strategic interventions.
- Inadequate Privacy: Shared accommodations and facilities frequently compromise personal boundaries, underscoring the need for spaces designed to ensure privacy without undermining functionality. Designating private, secure spaces can foster a more inclusive, productive, and equitable work culture.
- Limited Safety Measures: Poorly lit pathways and unmonitored areas represent significant safety risks. Enhancing these environments is essential to mitigating such vulnerabilities.
- Fear of Reporting: Concerns about retaliation or distrust in reporting systems often deter women from reporting harassment or security breaches. Effectively addressing this issue necessitates cultural as well as systemic change.
Emerging Trends in Addressing Safety Concerns
Workforce accommodation poses unique challenges and the industry is witnessing a growing recognition of the importance of addressing safety concerns for women. Several trends are shaping how organisations are approaching these challenges:
1. Adoption of Advanced Access Solutions
Access solutions are being increasingly utilised to enhance safety in workforce accommodations. These technologies offer:
- Controlled Access: Unauthorised access remains a significant security challenge for many organisations. Keyless access control solutions like mobile and smart credentials, offer a safer and more reliable way to manage entry. By eliminating the risks associated with lost or stolen keys, these digital credentials allow instant access management—permissions can be updated or revoked in real-time. For example, solutions like those from Salto enable organisations to strengthen security while providing a seamless, user-friendly experience, providing solutions to build more secure facilities and respond to alerts from anywhere. As businesses continue to prioritise safety, adopting digital access control can be a crucial step toward a more secure environment.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Advanced systems provide real-time data on entries and exits, enabling swift responses to unusual activity and improving transparency.
- Audit Trails for Accountability: Comprehensive access logs ensure transparency and accountability among workers by providing a clear record of who accessed which areas and when. This not only aids in incident investigations but also fosters a culture of responsibility.
- Customisable Permissions: Time-based access restrictions and individualised credentials can tailor security to meet the unique needs of each site.
2. Integration of Comprehensive Security Systems
Organisations are moving toward integrated solutions that combine multiple technologies for a more holistic approach to safety:
- Surveillance Technologies: Advanced CCTV and motion detection systems improve visibility and act as deterrents.
- Emergency Preparedness: Systems with emergency override capabilities ensure swift responses to critical situations.
- Energy Efficiency of modern power and energy systems: Optimizing building energy consumption in accommodations and buildings by connecting rooms and access control increases efficiency, reduces energy, and creates a healthy building for occupants and well-being while increasing comfort and convenience for the adapted occupants.
- Communications: From a security perspective, workforce accommodations demand more stringent protection for the safety of their workers. A door intercom system connected to access control plays a big role in heeding this demand to provide communication and access, including video and voice features to ask for help or verify the identity of the visitor visually before granting door access.
- Face Recognition: Face recognition technology is unique in improving the security of access to facilities, creating safer spaces and users’ convenience for improved safeguarding measures and flow of users within a space.
3. Strengthening Organisational Policies and Culture
Addressing safety concerns goes beyond technology. Cultural and policy changes are crucial to creating a safe and inclusive environment:
- Proactive Risk Mitigation: Effective reporting systems allow organisations to identify and address potential safety risks before they escalate into serious incidents.
- Training and Awareness Programs: Educating employees on workplace safety, respectful behaviour, and recognising harassment fosters a culture of respect and inclusion.
- Employee Engagement: Actively involving employees in identifying and addressing safety concerns helps build trust and a sense of community.
Key Takeaways: Building Safer Workplaces for Women
Creating safer worker accommodations for women requires a blend of innovation, technology, and cultural change. Keyless access, real-time monitoring, and privacy-focused solutions help mitigate risks, enhance accountability, and build trust.
Salto is at the forefront of smart access innovation, seamlessly integrating keyless entry, physical ID management, and energy management to enhance security in workforce accommodations. Marc Gomez on leading Salto and shaping the future of Smart Access Control
Introducing Marc Gomez: the new SALTO WECOSYSTEM CEO on vision, innovation, and the future of Smart Access.
Introducing Marc Gomez: the new SALTO WECOSYSTEM CEO on vision, innovation, and the future of Smart Access.
We’re thrilled to introduce Marc Gomez as the new CEO of SALTO WECOSYSTEM. His rich and varied background as a business leader and his forward-thinking approach will bring valuable experience to bear in Salto’s vision of transforming the future of smart access and taking our growth to the next level. In this interview, Marc shares his thoughts on Salto’s unique and differentiated purpose, the launch of the SALTO WECOSYSTEM and his visions for innovation and sustainability in the smart access industry. Here’s an inside look at his plans and perspectives.
Salto has become a world-leading force in electronic locks and smart access. What would you say has driven this success?
Salto’s success is rooted in our innovative DNA, entrepreneurial culture, and a constant drive to evolve. Since joining, I’ve witnessed first-hand a commitment to innovation in every part of our organisation, from technology and products, through business models and industries that focus on a specialised vertical audience, to social and environmental initiatives. It’s all about team effort—our talented people and collective dedication to growth is what makes Salto stand out as one of the forces shaping the future of smart access tech globally.
In February 2024, Salto launched the SALTO WECOSYSTEM, bringing together brands like Gantner and Vintia. What inspired this move, and what does it bring to the industry?
The new branding is just one of the outcomes—though undoubtedly among the most visible—of a deep strategic reflection exercise. The process took over a year, but we believe it was essential to ensure our continued growth and successfully address the challenges that lie ahead.
This exercise not only allowed us to redefine our purpose as an organization, but also to establish a new structure that enables us to continue growing rapidly—just as we have done since the company’s foundation. Furthermore, this reflection saw us reassess how we communicate these changes to the market through our brand.
Thus, the SALTO WECOSYSTEM was born. It came from a shared vision of digitally transforming access and identity management. By bringing these core brands under a single platform, we’re creating a powerful ecosystem of diverse but cohesive expertise that allows us to offer smarter, more tailored solutions across a range of industries. Each brand brings its own strength to add value for partners, and the combined strengths of Salto, Gantner, and Vintia will drive more sustainable and connected access solutions for years to come.
How do these brands complement each other within the SALTO WECOSYSTEM?
Every brand in the SALTO WECOSYSTEM plays a unique role, amplifying its unique strengths in pursuit of a shared goal in this new structural alignment. Gantner maintains its position as a frontrunner in developing reliable, smart identification, cashless payment, and locker solutions. Salto, meanwhile, continues to spearhead advancements in building access, identity management, and electronic locking technology. Vintia, the latest entrant, specialises in ticketing and booking solutions that enhance visitor experiences and streamline operations at leisure and attraction locations. Together, they signify the commitment to innovation that’s fundamental to the new platform.
Can you highlight some recent technological advancements within the SALTO WECOSYSTEM?
At Salto, we’re long-recognised leaders in smart access technology, with many of our innovations now an essential part of modern security systems. Our vision of ‘Empowering Smart Access’ depends on developing new solutions in facility access, identity management, and electronic locking technology, reimagining the smart access ecosystem by eliminating the reliance on traditional mechanical keys. These include enhanced mobile access options, seamless integrations with third-party systems, new ways of access and identity like face recognition and advanced electronic locks with improved security and user features.
How does Salto meet the evolving needs of different industries?
We’re committed to being the leading smart access solutions provider partner in the security and access control industry. We want to create more secure, smarter and more efficient buildings. We want to support our business partners in their active role in the transition to more digital buildings and drive meaningful change to accelerate the transition to smart access.
Our industry-leading innovations address a variety of needs and offer smart solutions to access control, including hosted, cloud-based and mobile applications, face recognition, ID visitor management, door intercom, integration services and more. Properly planned and implemented, these features allow businesses to improve convenience, safety, operational efficiency, and the overall user experience in any industry, whether it’s hospitality, residential, commercial, or critical infrastructure.
What are the long-term goals of the SALTO WECOSYSTEM in the access control industry?
We have several ambitious goals aimed at shaping the future of the smart access industry. Firstly, we want to increase the value of buildings by improving users’ experience, operational efficiency and security. Innovation is also a key long-term aim, as we plan to stay at the cutting edge of smart access technology and continually adapt to industry trends, retaining our position as a global sector leader.
Our commitment to sustainability is another priority, with a focus on creating energy-efficient and eco-friendly products, promoting the circular economy principle to optimise resource use and minimise waste across the entire production chain. We want to apply a systemic approach built around transition theory, extending end-of-life strategies and delivering secure access solutions. We also value partnerships and want to expand our global reach to deliver comprehensive solutions to a broader market.
You mention our commitment to sustainability. How does Salto incorporate this in product design and operations?
Sustainability has been central to Salto since our founding. We have embraced the United Nations Global Compact and are working towards integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into our business strategy, culture, and day-to-day operations.
We’re also on a path to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, with a formal climate policy that includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a circular economy as I mentioned. We aim to minimise our environmental footprint throughout our products’ lifecycle; focusing all our efforts on decarbonising our activities, implementing environmental management at our factories and incorporating a circular approach that reduces the environmental impact of our product lifecycle.
But it’s about more than our products and group operations. We unified our social and sports support efforts 20 years ago under Free2Move.org, which is still in use today. And recently, we established the SALTO FOUNDATION—which uses sport as a platform to drive social inclusion globally—to amplify these efforts, increasing the scale and intensity of our philanthropic actions to go beyond short-term solutions and fragmented support. So this represents the next stage in our evolution, one where we formalise and sharpen the focus of our social initiatives to have a more significant and lasting impact.
What challenges and opportunities do you see for Salto as you look to the future?
Our possibilities are unlimited in an industry that’s evolving constantly. Imagine the transition of all mechanical keys to smarter access and identity solutions for doors in the workplace. The options to unlock a future of innovation and security are limitless.
One of our biggest challenges, and also opportunities, is to stay at the forefront of a rapidly evolving industry. This means understanding the needs and challenges of our channel partners, helping to expand their reach and scale their operations by adapting our organisation, our services and the products we deliver. We must also continue to seek ethical and transparent leadership, based on the values that respond to the expectations of integrity that our customers and partners rightly place on us.

What you need to know about the EU’s new NIS 2 Directive and DORA – and how Salto fits in
Keeping up with regulatory changes helps organisations stay safe in a rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.
Keeping up with regulatory changes helps organisations stay safe in a rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.
In the realm of cybersecurity, safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring operational resilience have never been more essential. Recognising the growing complexity of cyber threats, the European Union has introduced legislative measures like the Network and Information Security Directive and the Digital Operational Resilience Act to establish stringent cybersecurity standards. Salto’s smart access and identity management solutions are designed to support organisations in achieving compliance with these vital frameworks, offering robust security and operational continuity.
Here is a comprehensive guide to navigating these directives and ensuring your organisation's cybersecurity readiness.
Understanding the NIS 2 Directive
The Network and Information Security Directive (NIS 2), effective as of October 18th, sets a high common level of cybersecurity for companies operating across the EU. Expanding on its predecessor, the NIS Directive, it emphasises enhanced security measures for network and information systems, as well as improved incident reporting protocols.
NIS 2 mandates that European companies which fulfill certain conditions adopt technical, operational, and organisational measures to manage cybersecurity risks effectively. The Directive covers companies within 18 sectors, including energy and critical infrastructures, finance, healthcare, manufacturing facilities, and public infrastructure.
Conducting a comprehensive risk assessment is the first step toward aligning processes with the requirements of NIS 2. This involves identifying and evaluating potential cyber threats that could impact business operations. Other key aspects of NIS 2 compliance include:
- Identity management, authentication, and access: This requirement encompasses a broader set of entities, including suppliers, with varying size thresholds.
- Data security: This element imposes stringent security measures to mitigate risks and protect systems from cyber threats.
- Quick detection and response to cyber incidents: NIS 2 calls for timely reporting of cybersecurity incidents to designated authorities.
- Continuous security monitoring: Companies are required to ensure security standards are upheld at all times.
What is DORA?
The Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), effective from January 2025, focuses on strengthening IT security within the financial sector. Covering 20 types of financial entities – including banks, insurance firms, and ICT third-party service providers – DORA harmonises operational resilience rules to ensure that the sector can withstand severe operational disruptions.
DORA’s scope extends beyond mere protection. It highlights the need for consistent operational continuity and preparedness across financial institutions and their IT service providers. Key aspects of DORA compliance include:
- ICT risk management: DORA requires institutions to prepare comprehensive resilience testing programs for all digital operations.
- Incident reporting: This feature compels companies to report ICT incidents affecting operations to financial authorities and all affected parties.
- Third-party risk management: With this aspect, organisations must develop a regularly updated strategy for minimising third-party risk, including contractual agreements and monitoring.
- Information sharing: Entities operating in the financial sector must transparently share information about vulnerabilities and cyber threats.
Guarantee NIS 2 and DORA compliance with Salto smart solutions
Salto’s wide-ranging access control solutions secure environments from offices to data centers and critical infrastructure. As such, we’re uniquely positioned to help our clients and partners meet NIS 2 and DORA standards. Salto smart access and identity management solutions provide the following capabilities aligned with NIS 2 and DORA requirements to simplify the journey to compliance:
- Enhanced access control: Delivering advanced solutions for secure sensitive areas ensures that only authorised personnel gain entry. Organisations can restrict access to specific zones, define time-based schedules, and use various access methods, including smart cards and fobs, mobile access, keypads, and biometric authentication.
- Salto’s ID Visitor Management solution: This enhances access control systems for NIS 2 compliance, boosting security and accountability for all on-site visitors. Providing digital registration allows visitors to access authorised areas only, supported by features like real-time notifications and personalised visitor badges.
- Comprehensive audit trails: To meet NIS 2 and DORA requirements, organisations must maintain detailed records of access events. Our smart solutions automatically generate thorough logs and audit trails, giving your company a powerful tracking system that records who accessed specific doors and at what times. This reinforces compliance and accountability in the event of incidents.
- Resilient access control and state-of-the-art electronics locking solutions: Reflecting DORA’s emphasis on operational continuity, Salto’s intelligent access control solutions keep critical access points secure and functional, even during power outages or network failures. This reliability enables your organisation to maintain security seamlessly through unexpected disruptions.
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA): This technology provides an added layer of security by necessitating multiple verification steps beyond traditional passwords. Salto’s smart access solutions integrate MFA protocols into existing security systems, fortifying your organisations’ defenses against cyber threats.
- End-to-end authentication solutions: Ensure secure access to applications, networks, and access control management platforms and operators. Salto’s solutions deliver secure credentials on physical and mobile devices, guaranteeing seamless user authentication.

Security is at the core of Salto’s operations. As one of the world’s leading access control providers, we embed privacy and safety into every aspect of our products and services. In the face of evolving cyber threats and regulatory demands, we’re dedicated to ensuring that our smart access technologies and solutions comply with these heightened security standards.
