Explore XS4 Com iGO, the next-generation door intercom system designed to seamlessly blend with the digital lifestyle of today's users. By combining sophisticated technology with user-friendly features, XS4 Com iGO transforms the way we manage access in various environments, from homes to workspaces.
The evolution of the access control system
Intercoms have come a long way, transitioning from audio-based only to modern, multifunctional systems. Initially designed to announce a visitor's arrival, early intercoms were about basic communication, speaking through a panel to verify and decide on granting access.
As technology evolved, so did intercoms. The integration of video capabilities was a critical development, allowing for visual confirmation of guests, enhancing both security and convenience.
Today, the evolution continues with intercom systems that integrate seamlessly into our (digital) lives. It's not just about seeing or speaking with visitors anymore but about creating a connected, secure, and convenient (w)ecosystem. They offer advanced features such as remote access control, history logs, access notifications and integration capabilities, reflecting our expectations for technology that provides not just security, but also comfort and smart connectivity.

In this context of digital advancement, solutions like Salto’s XS4 Com iGO represent the next step (advance) in intercom technology,—designed for users who prioritize seamless and integrated communication.
The problem with current systems
While modern intercom systems have embraced video capabilities to allow visual verification of visitors, enhancing both security and convenience, challenges in their everyday use remain.
One of the challenges is the need to physically approach the intercom for every visitor—whether at home or in the office, which interrupts work and personal time. This routine becomes particularly inconvenient when it involves unnecessary walking, a big contrast to the seamless interactions we've become used to with modern technology.
Furthermore, these systems often lack the flexibility to adjust settings based on the user's immediate needs, such as turning off the ringtone during a meeting or nap time, further showing the need for an intercom solution that adapts to the user's lifestyle rather than controlling it. All this reveals a gap in a design that should be more user than product centric.
In response to these challenges, XS4 Com door intercom platform appears as a thoughtfully designed solution. It represents a step forward by providing a system that marries the convenience of modern technology with simplicity needed for everyday life.
Introducing XS4 Com
In the evolution of access management, XS4 Com iGO introduces a new approach that aligns with the modern user’s digital-first lifestyle. At its heart, the system redefines visitor management by employing QR code and NFC technology to connect remotely with hosts, facility managers, concierges, and other designated individuals at the door, a simple yet effective solution that caters to both security and convenience.
Key features include:
- Streamlined Visitor Access: Visitors can initiate contact by scanning a QR code or tapping their NFC-enabled phone on an iGO plate.
- Two-Way Verification: Supports both video and audio interactions, allowing users to confirm visitor identity visually before granting access.
- Geofencing Capability: Geofencing ensures calls are only made when visitors are near the property, enhancing security.
- User Control Options: Users have the flexibility to accept or decline calls based on their convenience.
- Mobile Management: Access management is fully controllable via the user’s smartphone.
- Remote door control: User can open your doors from anywhere via the XS4 Com app
When visitors arrive, they are presented with a streamlined option to initiate contact: scanning XS4 Com iGO’s QR code or tapping it with their NFC-enabled phone. This action launches a web interface on the visitor’s device, displaying a digital phonebook from which they can select the intended contact. Upon selection, a notification is instantly sent to the users’s XS4 Com iGO app, prompting a video call request.

At this point, users have the flexibility to manage the interaction directly from their app. They can choose to accept the call, which activates a secure video communication allowing them to visually confirm the visitor's identity before granting access. Alternatively, if it’s not a convenient time, tenants can decline the call with just a tap, maintaining their privacy and controlling access according to their current availability. This dual interaction model not only streamlines the entry process but also significantly enhances security and verification measures, making the entire experience seamless and secure.

Furthermore, XS4 Com iGO employs geofencing to ensure that calls can only be initiated when visitors are physically near the property, with customizable distance settings managed by the site manager. For added security, visitors are required to have their camera on during the call, while tenants have the discretion to enable or disable their cameras, ensuring privacy and control.
XS4 Com iGO simplifies access management, making it easily controllable from anywhere through its app. This not only elevates security but integrates effortlessly with daily life, combining convenience with peace of mind. Its adaptability shines in both residential and commercial settings, enhancing spaces with smart technology without the burden of complex setups.

Enhancing security with improved incident notifications
Effective incident notification systems play a pivotal role in ensuring swift responses to potential security breaches, system malfunctions, and other critical even
In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, ensuring 24/7 security of physical spaces has never been more crucial. Effective incident notification systems play a pivotal role in ensuring swift responses to potential security breaches, system malfunctions, and other critical events.
Traditional incident notification systems often lead to information overload and significant delays in response. Operators and systems administrators manage access for facilities – changing access rights, creating new user profiles, and monitoring and securing sites – but at the same time, are bombarded with alerts, from minor issues such as low battery warnings to major security breaches. This not only overwhelms them but also increases the risk of critical alerts being missed. Additionally, the lack of flexibility and analysis in these systems means that security policies, anticipating actions, and preventing situations before they escalate into emergencies via lockdowns and push notifications of potential entry breaches might not effectively alert your response teams.
Whether it is an everyday situation or an emergency, being ready and aware is critical to ensuring you can quickly respond to whatever situations may arise. Having a comprehensive smart access control system and action plan that can be seamlessly activated ensures you respond fast and effectively to everyday incidents and emergency situations.
As the dynamics of building and facility management evolve, there is a need for more sophisticated incident notification systems to manage and optimize workflows to deliver a consistent incident response every time. Modern organizations and smart buildings require systems to advance digitization in their operations to offer rapid customization, delegate responsibilities effectively, and ensure that those responsible receive the information they need to act quickly.

In the demonstration, a physical button simulated a sensor signal, triggering an alarm event to control the action of a relay on the CU, in this case, a beeper. This level of control over sensor inputs and corresponding responses enhances the platform's incident notification capabilities.
- Door-triggered lockdown: Another highlight of the demonstration was the use of alarm events to enable a lockdown area when a certain door is opened. This feature is crucial for managing security incidents and ensuring rapid response to unauthorized access attempts.
- Online monitoring: The online monitoring functionality gives users the ability to monitor and control the real-time status of online access points. Additionally, it empowers users to execute actions on doors, such as activating Emergency Open or Emergency Close modes. With online access, the denylist can be automatically transmitted to doors, eliminating the need for manual updates at each individual door.

Homelok: Access control incident notifications for residential and multi-family properties
With Salto Homelok's SVN keyless and cloud-based access control platform for residential and multi-family properties, managing access has never been easier. The platform offers quick online administration, giving property managers and residents seamless control over every entry point in the building.
Salto Homelok's administrator activity screen provides a comprehensive list of events ordered by date and time. Users can easily track activities such as user creations, door unlocks, and access denials. This feature allows property managers to stay informed about all access-related actions within their properties.
- System Events: System Events are triggered by user actions within the software, typically by individuals with management roles in Homelok. Examples of System Events include user creations, access modifications, and key assignments.
- Device Events: Device Events are generated by access points and doors within the installation and are primarily initiated by keyholders gaining access. Examples of Device Events include door unlocks by users, access denials, and firmware updates.

Data centres often incorporate a variety of access control solutions, identity management platforms, and physical security technologies. By consolidating these systems, administrators can detect, monitor, and respond to security threats in real-time.
Integrated access management equips data centres to identify vulnerabilities and reduce risks while meeting compliance requirements. Unifying smart access solutions with other core security systems – such as intrusion monitoring, license plate recognition, and video surveillance – ensures only authorised users can enter the facility or specific zones. The integration also allows security teams to verify credentials, track activities, and address incidents as they happen.
6. Compliance
Operating a data centre requires adhering to specific regulatory requirements related to access control. To ensure compliance while balancing security and operational needs, operators should opt for robust and efficient smart access solutions.
7. Scalability
Additionally, these centres are often governed by complex access policies based on roles, responsibilities, and the sensitivity of data. Enforcing them can be challenging, especially in large organisations with numerous employees, contractors, and third-party vendors requiring different levels of access.

Enhancing Healthcare Security with Salto Access Control Systems and BioCote® antimicrobial Technology
For nearly a decade, Salto, in partnership with BioCote®, has incorporated antimicrobial silver ion technology in its smart electronic lock range, electronic cylinders, locker locks, and supporting devices like wall readers.
Cleaning & sanitation reduces the risks when using an access point. For nearly a decade, Salto, in partnership with BioCote® – the market-leading antimicrobial technology supplier – has incorporated antimicrobial silver ion technology in its smart electronic lock range, electronic cylinders, locker locks, and supporting devices like wall readers. The addition of BioCote® antimicrobial technology helps reduce microbes, namely bacteria and fungi, on product surfaces, complementing the overall hygiene of building environments. Salto smart locking devices with BioCote® are particularly beneficial for Healthcare, Educational environments and the Hospitality market, as they can inhibit the growth of these microbes on the surfaces of the devices themselves.
Understanding the need for enhanced hygiene in Healthcare facilities
In recent years, the standards of healthcare cleanliness have undergone significant changes. The NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness were updated in 2021 [1] to address the demands of healthcare professionals and patients, reflecting a broader trend across Europe. Regulations now mandate thorough cleaning of premises and equipment, along with regular monitoring and immediate action upon identifying issues. Prioritising cleanliness ensures a safe and hygienic environment, enhancing the quality of care settings [2].
Various methods, such as using hospital-grade disinfectants, adequate ventilation, and availability of PPE, contribute to maintaining cleanliness in healthcare settings [3]. Antimicrobial technology is increasingly integrated into various products and surfaces as a built-in feature to complement these hygiene measures. This emphasis on cleanliness highlights the importance of strict adherence to cleaning schedules. The integration of BioCote® in Salto access control systems offers a promising approach to enhancing hygiene in healthcare facilities.

Salto’s advanced access control solutions
Effective access control systems have an important part in reducing these issues. Through regulating entry and exit points, controlling the flow of individuals, and minimising contact with surfaces, Salto systems surpass these basic expectations of typical control systems by offering the advantages antimicrobial technology, with an innovative approach to addressing hygiene concerns.
Salto leads the way in providing quality access control solutions customised for various industries, including healthcare or educational facilities. Prioritising smoothness, comfort, and security in developing and manufacturing advanced wireless electronic locking and access control solutions designed to enhance daily life for users.
BioCote® is an antimicrobial agent that contains silver-ions which are engineered to provide continuous, built-in protection on Salto smart electronic door locks surfaces and hardware devices like the XS4 smart door lock range, Neo electronic cylinders, locker locks, or Design XS wall readers. It works by binding with microbes and damaging their cells in a number of ways, disrupting their normal functions and preventing them from reproducing.
Leveraging antimicrobial technology helps healthcare providers inhibit the growth of microorganisms. Healthcare facilities face unique challenges in maintaining cleanliness and preventing cross-contamination, necessitating strict and regular cleaning practices.

The role of BioCote® Antimicrobial Technology in enhancing Healthcare cleanliness
With BioCote® antimicrobial technology built-in to access control hardware and surfaces, Salto products continuously inhibit the growth of microbes. This proactive measure of hygiene control not only promotes cleanliness on the products surface, but also reduces potential cross-contamination.
There are many expectations for the methods used for healthcare environmental cleaning [4]. Antimicrobial technology covers a multitude of benefits whilst maintaining the cleanliness of healthcare environments. By ensuring a broad spectrum of antimicrobial coverage, rapid action, and persistent effects on treated surfaces, BioCote® contributes significantly to overall cleanliness by providing a long-lasting and effective feature that inhibits the growth of microbes.
Implementing antimicrobial additives into the manufacturing process provides numerous benefits to the product. BioCote® works continuously to inhibit the growth of microbes on a surface by up to 99.99% without washing off or wearing out over time, lasting the lifetime of the product. The benefits of BioCote® technology in Salto systems contributes to the success of industry hygiene standards, providing peace of mind to healthcare stakeholders and ensuring compliance with best practices.
BioCote® protection is simple, long-lasting, and effective

BioCote® cannot be wiped or worn away, therefore enhances hygiene management and reduces the potential for cross-contamination.
-
BioCote® silver ion technology is simple. The Salto BioCote® finish is applied to parts of the escutcheon for a small additional cost. The silver coating does not affect the aesthetics of the product and BioCote®-treated products can be cleaned with gentler cleaning products and need no extra maintenance. Regular cleaning practices is suitable to maintain the warranty of the finish.
-

Exploring the power of BioCote® in Smart Buildings
Salto systems enhanced with BioCote® technology are designed to work alongside cleaning practices, ensuring comprehensive coverage even in spots that might be overlooked. It is important to understand that antimicrobial technology does not replace cleaning efforts but rather boosts the hygiene of the product’s surface. Tested and proven safe for use, BioCote® is trusted globally for long-lasting action, which remains effective for the entire lifespan of the product -sometimes even extending it beyond expectations by reducing microbes that cause material degradation. Moreover, BioCote® helps inhibit the growth of microbes that can cause staining and odours. Being the only HACCP-certified antimicrobial additive supplier ensures the safety of integrating BioCote® in products and surfaces that may come into contact with food, offering reassurance on hygiene and quality.
By introducing BioCote® antimicrobial technology, Salto helps to support a cleaner and more hygienic environment. This is of particular importance in any public or shared space setting, as it improves the hygiene of common touchpoints and helps to prevent microbe cross-contamination.

Shortly, we will add more Pro Features that will collectively create the smart and seamless Salto KS Pro experience.

Add-ons and Additional Seats
Since you are now getting acquainted with our new subscription model, we must introduce you to two new terms: Add-ons and Additional Seats. Once you know these two handy concepts and how they work, you will have full transparency and control over your Salto KS plan and its capabilities.

What is an Add-on?
An Add-on is an optional feature you can add to your subscription. Add-ons are available to both Salto KS Lite and Pro customers, which means that all Salto KS users can select an Add-on to accompany their existing list of features. Our first Add-on available is Pods.
A Pod is a collection of locks a user should have access to (e.g., the building entrance, the social area, and the front door of their apartment). With this feature in Salto KS, building managers can outsource the access control management to Pod Members, allowing them to invite guests to their Pod. This feature enables building managers to offload some of the responsibility of management operations and save time.
What are Additional Seats?
Additional Seats can expand the limitation of certain Salto KS Pro features beyond the subscription voucher size capacity. Users can customize their subscriptions by adding Additional Seats for certain Pro Features. NET.Lock, i.e., locker management, is an example. For instance, in the case of NET.Lock: All Pro subscription sizes will support up to 192 lockers, and if, for example, a customer requires 193 lockers, they will need to purchase that extra locker individually as an Additional Seat.
Please note that Additional Seats will work differently depending on the Pro Feature. This is because each feature has a different component that can be purchased in addition to the maximum supported by the subscription. For NET.Lock: the component is lockers.
An updated pricing model and its benefits
In the former Salto KS subscription model, all voucher types included the same functionalities and were only differentiated by the number of users and IQs. Having an IQ-based subscription was not beneficial to users who wished to scale up their business. Now, we have updated our pricing model to improve our features' sales process and accommodate our subscription model to our customers' needs.
We have shifted to a feature-based subscription model which will help customers equip their sites with the right bundle of features that best fits their needs. This new voucher structure comprises two feature-oriented packages, Lite and Pro, which will be sold alongside the existing user-based Salto KS vouchers.
The process of purchasing a voucher is the same, i.e., you must contact your supplier/installer or Salto Systems Support to buy a new voucher. The only difference is that you now have the freedom to select the Salto KS subscription plan of your choice and customize it with Add-ons and Additional Seats.
A ‘Free Week’ for every new installation

When a new installation (site) is created, Salto KS customers receive a Free Week. In this Free Week, they will have access to seven full days of Salto KS Pro features and Pods as an Add-on before choosing their subscription.
If you try out the Free Week and want to continue using its features, make sure you have purchased and activated a Pro plan or selected the number of Pods you wish to add on top of your subscription.
If after the seven days are up, you wish to activate a Salto KS Lite subscription, please note that while you will be able to view what you created during your Free Week, it won't be possible to click on and utilize Pro features or Add-ons (Pods). These will be disabled at the end of your Free Week.
The next steps
So, what does all of this mean for you? We have implemented steps to smooth this transition, especially keeping our loyal existing customers in mind. All customers with an active subscription will be upgraded to Salto KS Pro until the end of 2024.
As we continue to grow and push the boundaries of cloud-based access control, we assure you of the highest quality and security of our solutions. Our team will do our best to ease the impact of these changes on our customers and partners, and we thank you for your continued support.
More information is on the way. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact our Support team with any questions or for assistance with the new subscriptions and prices.

Our cloud-based access solution, SALTO KS, has just released its latest series of improvements to the SALTO KS Web App. The Pod, Site, and Events pages will look a bit different, but they are guaranteed to impact your productivity and experience! Like previous updates to our platform, the new layouts provide a cleaner and more organized display of your actions and data.
If you haven’t read our recent update, we started a project to align our SALTO KS platforms regarding user experience, style, and consistency. Our first improvements were made to the People, Locks, and Access Groups pages. Now, in this blog post, we will show you what’s new in the Pod, Site, and Events sections of your Web App and all you need to know about the new look. Read ahead for a bird’s eye view of before and after!
Pods section of SALTO KS
The new Pods pages of your Web App follow a similar style and structure to the People, Locks, and Access Groups pages. The ‘Members’ table has a more straightforward layout and is better structured with information about Pod Members and Pod Guests. This table also contains a new ‘Tags’ column to view how many tags are used from the ones available.
The main actions are in the Actions Header on the top of the page, where you have the option to Edit Pod, Add New Members, and Delete. When you click ‘Edit Pod,’ you will find the option to ‘Clean’ the Pod.
Once you click on a Pod, the menu options for the page are now presented in the form of four tabs (or chips) that you can select: Members, Locks, Tags, and Time frame.
The Locks and Tags tabs have a similar overview to the Access Groups page. When you select locks in the Pod, they will be highlighted in red to show you are removing them, and when you select locks not in the Pod, they will be highlighted in green to show you are adding them. This process works in the same way for tags in the Tags tab. Once you have made your selections, you can click the ‘Save Changes’ blue button below, and you’re good to go.

SALTO KS page site
1. Site Overview Page
The Site Overview page has mostly had a makeover regarding its presentation of your Site’s significant information.
The changes for this page follow a similar structure to the previous page upgrades, including the following:
a.) A top navigation bar with two buttons: Edit Site and Transfer Ownership
b.) Cards containing all the essential information concerning the ‘Site details’ and ‘Site owner.’
c.) Mobile compatibility, with expandable cards that are easily readable on your mobile browser.

As you might have noticed, the ‘Transfer Ownership’ button has moved to the top navigation bar. Overall, this page has a cleaner look and feel, with the content sitting neatly on your screen.
2. Site Hardware Page
The Site Hardware page is the most significant upgrade in user experience. You will notice that this page has a visibly different layout than before, with a new and distinct hardware table.
Like before, your detached locks and repeaters will be presented in sections with a drop-down menu for actions to the side. The page has all the same information as the old design, with only a few changes, which include:
a.) The search bar for IQs has been moved to directly above the hardware table on the left.
b.) The rows of the hardware table have indicated headers that were not present before. These are ‘Device Name,’ ‘Type,’ and ‘Connected To’.
c.) The table has been improved with better alignment, and the IQ tree has more clarity and organization.
d.) The lock icons are more realistic, making deciphering the IQ tree and utilizing the action menu easier.
e.) The status and Mac number have been made immediately visible.

3. Lockers (GANTNER NET.Lock)
The Lockers page has a new name: 'NET.Lock' — i.e., lockers from GANTNER - a SALTO Group Company. This page has a cleaner layout and improved icons, similar to the Hardware page.
The locker mode and status are now grouped within the table's first ‘Name’ column.
4. Tags
In the Tags page table, you will notice that the Offline Access icon is now visible in the ‘Tag Number’ column, so you can see which tags have Offline Access enabled. When a tag is blocked, this icon is red, and when a tag is unblocked, the icon is blue.
In addition, a new column, ‘Pods,’ shows whether or not a tag belongs to a Pod.
Lastly, the Tags table has an actions menu on the far right of the row with 3 new actions: Disable Offline Access, Delete tag, and Block tag. You can Enable Offline Access or Unblock the tag depending on the status.

5. Rights, Installer Access, Floors, and Tag Reader
These pages are similar to the stylistic changes explained above. The most visible updates are the addition of a toggle switch button and that all main actions are in the Actions Header on the top of the page; for instance, in the Installer Access page, the ‘Revoke Access’ button is now in the header.
Events Events pages of SALTO KS
The Events pages include Entries and Incidents. These pages have an updated layout with the exact same content.

That concludes our overview of the latest pages updated in your SALTO KS Web App. We hope the changes improve your experience in the app and increase your efficiency and performance of operations.
Like with all our updates, we have kept you, our valued user, in mind and made all these mobile-compatible changes. With this, we come closer to our goal of aligning our platforms regarding user experience, style, and consistency.
